Guest guest
YAAA! The sun is finally coming out!! We need to talk about sun protection! It is critical that lupus folks protect themselves with a strong sun screen and good sunglasses. Wrap around glasses if you can get them. Please don’t mistake this for an advertisement. I am not in anyway connected with the company I will talk about. I just want to impart some information to the group. There is a company called Sun Precautions 1- fax www.sunprecautions.com They sell clothing for sun sensitive people. The clothing is made out of a special material that filters out UVB and UVA rays. (That stuff that makes us sick) They have a 30+SPF factor. The clothing material is called Solumbra. A typical sunscreen with a 30 SPF (the sun protection factor rating which lets you stay outdoors 30 times longer than you could without sun protection before you get minimal sunburn) still allows a lot of harmful UVA radiation through the skin. Solumbra was designed by and for some of the most medically sun sensitive people. The fabric blocks more than 97% of UVA AND UVB rays. A typical summer shirt, by comparison only provides an SPF of 5 to 9. The catalogue offers hats, shirts, jackets, pants, skirts, and kids cloths too. A warning though, they are expensive. If you can’t afford some of it, at least try to get a hat with a wide brim. They also have hats with cloth covering the neck. Stay safe and well friends.
