Hi .....it is a long and ridiculous process. I don't know why they

need to put us thru what they do, especially when there is medical proof of a

disease. I applied for SSD in the early summer of 2001. I got denied. I

reapplied and got denied again. I reapplied the third time (this time I went

with a

lawyer) and got a hearing date with a judge. I had my hearing with the judge

in Nov (around thanksgiving) of 2002, and I got approved the letter came

Christmas Eve of 2002. It takes a while and 99.99 percent of people that apply

get rejected 2 times then goes before a judge. Don't give up, just keep

reapplying. I was going to try and do it on my own, but after my second

rejection I

decided I would rather go to a hearing with support. I wish I had started out

with the lawyer, as I had to pay him the same no matter what. Good luck and

keep me posted.

Love & Friendship,

Ellen

Hi,

I haven't applied for SSD, but my husband did. Wasn't for lupus, it was for Parkinson's Disease. He was turned down the first time & wouldn't appeal because he was insistent that he would get better. After a few more months of getting worse he agreed to reapply. Well, we were told at the local SS office that they had 120 to make a decision. On the 119th day I called Nashville (regional office) to check on his claim. Was told that his caseworker had "left the agency", his file had been left on her desk & that it had been overlooked when they reassigned her cases. I called 2 days later & got a "temporary caseworker" & was told that the 120 days was not right, "we have as long as we want". I got mad! Went back to the local office, told them we were about to lose our home waiting on them & was told that we should contact our congressman because the "witch" at the regional office was wrong. We went to Congressman Duncan's local office, spoke to his secretary who called Nashville. The Nashville office called me the next day & had a new caseworker assigned! We had the opportunity to speak to Congressman Duncan a couple of weeks later & he got on their case. Jace had his disability check 6wks later. So I would recommend anyone contact their congressman if you think you're getting the run-around from SSD. At least if they can help you won't have to share your money like you will if you have to get a lawyer.

Good luck,
