Hi

We are in Perth and have had little support either. Claire has been on the

diet for 3y 2 m and has been seizure free for the last 6 months. This has

been no thanks to the dieticians. If it were not for this group and our

persistence we would have never attained this success.

Claire has 1 Centrum and 4 Nature's Own Cal/Mag chelate tablets per day

(100mg/50mg). Claire was started on Caltrate initially too but I got her

off it pretty quick after reading it was not a good choice for a number of

reasons. I believe the chelate is considerably more absorbable that the

caltrate but Claire's bone density is in the very low normal range, and

decreasing slightly each year so I want to try to boost her intake.

The dietician recently analysed Claire's meals and is pressuring me to make

adjustments, one of which is to increase Calcium so I increased the cal/mag

from 3 to 4 per day. She has suggested a calcium carbonate solution which

is available from the children's hospital here but I am not keen because

CaCO3 is more likely to cause kidney stones due to poor absorption, and

also because the 9ml dose recommended per day has 1.8g carb and Claire only

has 7.2g carb per day!

She has also recommended I increase to 1 1/2 Centrum but I am concerned

that this will give her too much Vit A.

What quantity of cal/mag is in the Blackmores product?

I suppose the bottom line is that it has taken a long time, and a lot of

experimenting to get Claire seizure free and improve her quality of life

and I don't want to rock the boat by making the sweeping changes that are

being suggested to me. In the past she has reacted badly to changes,

medications, and many supplements so if it 'aint broke why fix it!

I have emailed whole life to find out if their products are available in Oz

or if they can be shipped here. I'll let you know if I hear back anything.

How old is ? How long has he been on the diet? Claire is 18.

Take care

Jill
