I just had VBeam done 3 days ago and have bruises on my cheeks and chin. The

doctor's office told me the same thing about Photoderm, so I opted for the

VBeam. When I learned it would only take 2, or perhaps 3 treatments I was

sold.

1. Take some ice in plastic bags in washcloths (in a small cooler) to the

doctors office when you have the VBeam, if you get bruises, start applying

them IMMEDIATELY, that will help with the swelling and minimize the bruises.

My doctor's office is about an hour from my house and I wish I had ice during

that time!

2. Get your doctor to prescribe something for the swelling and bruises, mine

prescribed Locoid, which seems to be helping.

3. Plan to stay home a bit, I had my done just before the

weekend....addtionally lots of make-up WILL cover the bruises. I iced 20

minutes every 2 hours. I woke up with a bunch of swelling around my eyes, so

sleeping propped up on pillows would be a good idea if one has swelling.

4. Get some make-up that will work with your skin and cover well. Both

foundation and a cover. I found Lamcome's " Palette Pro " works well, it has

yellow, pink, green and tan - - the yellow works wonders with the bruises,

and the tan and green cover the rosacea. I put this on under my foundation.

5. I have been told the bruises will be mostly gone in about a week. It's

odd the web site for the laser says " PURPURA FREE, " ......... well have I got

news for them!

6. One thing I have just ordered that I wish I had had before the VBeam

treatments is some lotion/cream with Vitamin k - I've read on the web this is

supposed to be helpful if you use it after the treatments, and even helps if

you start using it before the treatments. But I haven't yet tried it myself

so who knows?

7. I have gone ahead and made my appointment for 4 weeks from now, because

my doctor's office is filling up far in advance too, in fact on office in

town has a 2 month waiting period.

8. It's day 3 and my face still has the bruising on my cheeks and chin,

although not as bad as the first day, I am trusting the doctor's experience

that this is a common occurrence and I will love the results.

9. The treatment feels like frozen rubber bands and was not bad at all.

10. Please post any ideas and wisdom you have too!....there's not much on

this board yet for VBeam.

Best of luck!

Hi,

Im getting V-Beam laser treatment done on my face in a

month from now.

Im wondering if I should already schedule another

apointment for second treatment, since there is a long

waiting list for V-Beam.

Are there any noticable results after just one V-Beam

treatment?

Are there any side-effects after V-Beam?

Will I be able to go to work next day after the

treatment and not freak everyone out, or taking a week

off is a better idea?

How many V-Beam treatments does it take on average to

have a normal skin? I have moderate cea.

I asked my derm about Photoderm and he said its

prehistoric and that V-Beam is a lot more effective.

Is that true?

So many questions, hopefully Im goin to get some

answers :o)

Regards,

SC.

I called one of the groups that does the IPL treatment in California

under Dr. Bitter's list. I aksed them the difference between IPL

(photoderm) and what they refer to as VBEAM. They told me it is really

not laser, it is like the photoderm, however since the patients

understand laser better they just call it laser?!!

I do not have the name in front of me. Your doctor acutually referred

to them as different treatments?

Vbeam is the latest variant of the conventional pulsed-dye laser

(PDL), and indeed is a laser just as its predecessors. It operates at

around 585 nm, the frequency with maximum absorption by hemoglobin.

IPL is a continuous spectrum from 505 to 1200 nm, with filters used to

discard the lower end of the spectrum. Vbeam mitigates bruising via

longer pulse, but mostly due to new cooling mechanism. Some people

think that the cooling mechanism may limit effectiveness for

background erythema by causing localized vasoconstriction, but this is

not proven in my mind.

I'll really go out on limb here. If you want to get the fastest

removal of localized telangiectasia (and don't care about 10 day

down time), pulse dye is the ticket. If you're looking for treatment

of full-face background erythema and flushing with no bruising, IPL

(photoderm) appears to be the best approach. It is not clear to me

where Vbeam falls in this range, but proponents advocate that it

addresses both ends. But the jury is very much out. (Disclosure: I

have done photoderm, not PDL or Vbeam ...)

BTW, it must have been a Candela marketing rep who referred to

photoderm as " prehistoric " ...!
