Guest guest
My daughter is taking Prevacid and it completely took care of the reflux problem. The first week or so, she had diahrea (sp?) VERY bad, but after that no problem at all. I give her the capsule form (little balls inside), that I mixed with the first bite of her breakfast and help her wash it down with water. She started with 15 mg. which worked for about 2 weeks, then the doctor increased it to 30 mg. Her dietician increased her fat ratio about a month ago and she started gagging again, so she's at 45 mg. (she could go up to 60 mg. for her weight). She tried Reglan at first, but it caused tremor-like movements that won us a trip to ER (the school sent her in an ambulance)!! I learned through this group that it can cause CNS (central nervous system) problems with neurologically impaired kids!! Not good for us. Good luck, Heidi, future occupational therapist and single mom to (IS, Severely/Multiply Impaired, Ketokid since 12/03) and twin brother, (4 years), and big sis Madison (6). Guest guest
Yes, it is very common on the diet. We had it terribly. We used the natural solutions; more smaller meals, keep upright after meals, raise head of the bed or mattress, give small amount of soda water at the end of the meal, give adequate water with meals, give milk of magnesia with last meal and sometimes other meals. Guest guest
When my little one first started on Carnitor, we gave too much and she started spitting up 30 times a day. We tried scaling down, we tried digestive enzymes, zantac and then finally gave up on Carnitor. When we stopped, within 4 days, she stopped spitting up. She also stopped having large seizures. We have since started her back on Carnitor (she started having the large seizures about 3 weeks after we stopped the carnitor), but we are moving up very slowly to try to get her used to it. We are currently 1/2 pill a day and will increase by 1/4 pill in about a week. So far, so good, no spit-up. Not sure about the seizures. > > Hi,my son Caden has developed reflux bad , cant find the reason > didn,t seem to have it at first, started carnitor a few weeks ago, > but he wasn,t having this at first with carnitor, just dont know and > doctor seems to be no help, he told me to call the peditrician to > see if ther is something he can take with diet , so asking for > advice here first to see if anyone here has had this problem. Guest guest
Relux is no small deal for these kids. It can be very painful, so insist that your doctor treat Caden's reflux. My son takes 25mg of protonix for reflux. He was misearable before he started taking it. Recently, I tried to give it to him everyother day, since concern about reflux medicine nuetralizing stomach acids and therefore leaving people more susesptible to infection was raised by researchers. But, he grew uncomfortable again, so I did not hesitate to go back to the daily dose.
