Guest guest
<<<NOW FOR SOME GOOD NEWS. I ALREADY HAVE ADORABLE BLACK POMERANIAN NAMED BRENNA. I HAVE A WHITE AND, BROWN CAT NAMED POPPY. I HAVE TWO COCKATIELS NAMED BUDDY AND, ANGEL AND, I AM ABOUT TO BECOME A NEW MOMMIE TO A CONURE. I FOUND A BIRD BREEDER IN ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI (4 hour drive from me) AND, SHE SENT ME A PICTURE OF 6 BRAND NEW BABIES. WHEN SHE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT BOTH MALE AND, FEMALE CONURES HAVE THE SAME COLORS, THEY BOTH TALK AND, BOTH VERY AFFECTIONATE, I FELL IN LOVE. SHE HAS NO IDEA WHAT COLORS THEY WILL BE RIGHT NOW FOR THERE ARE SO MANY COLORS. I GET TO PICK A BABY UP TOWARDS THE END OF THIS MONTH. I AM SO EXCITED. I LOVE BIRDS.>>> Hi Trudy, I think you'll love having a larger bird! I still like my cockatiels, but the larger parrots are fantastic. Do you know which species of conure you may be getting? There are many different species of conure & they range in size from just slightly larger than a parakeet to amazon parrot size with a longer tail. The most colorful ones are the Sun Conures. Bright yellow, orange & green. They can make good pets, affectionate, but not noted for talking ability & can be quite loud. Most of the conures are quite loud. It's just their nature. The largest is the Patagonian Conure. They are not great talkers either, but make up for that in affection & cuddliness! Ours would cuddle like a puppy. If you want a talker I'd recommend a Blue Crown Conure. That's the one in the movie "ie". They have the most talking ability in the conure family. The Cherry Heads & the Mitreds are good talkers, but are extremely noisy & tend to be screamers. If you are looking for a smaller size with alot of personality, then go with a Dusky Headed Conure. Not good at talking, but make great pets & are relatively quiet as conures go. They also aren't as apt to become nippy as the other small conures sometimes do. The Green Cheek Conures are one of the small ones. They are good pets, aren't very loud, but can be a little on the nippy side at times. They are the only conures that are becoming common in new color mutations. These are just a very few of the conures out there that are commonly available. We raised & showed all these species & a few of the others for many years. Had a Dusky male that made Champion. I also wanted to ask you what she meant by not knowing what color yet because of so many colors. They are all the same color within that species. That is, all the Suns look alike, even male & female, all the Blue Crowns look alike, all the Dusky's look alike, etc. If she knows which species she has babies of, then she should know what the colors are. Unless she's breeding the Green Cheek mutations. She is right that there isn't any difference in pet quality or talking ability in the males or females. That's true of all the parrot species, except the small parakeets, cockatiels & lovebirds. Before you decide on a species, I'd suggest you try to find as much info on the different species as you can so you can get the one most suited to you & your situation. All conures are certainly not alike! Have you ever read Bird Talk magazine? You'll find lots of useful info in that. I hope you don't mind my butting in, it's just that I've been in the parrot business for 20 yrs & have had 100's of phone calls from people who bought a parrot of some type, especially conures, not knowing how noisy they are & wanting rid of it. I hate for the bird & the person to have to go through that. If I can be of any help, just ask. ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here
