Guest guest
Dear Sharon, Weight loss surgery has changed a lot in the past 20 years. Dr R does revisions I understand and has good luck with them. If I were you I would phone him direct and explain your situation. I am age 55 and had my first wt loss surgery this past Jan 10, 2000 and have done fantastically. I have lost 59 lbs so far!!! I couldn't be more pleased. Best of luck to you. in Missouri
Guest guest
Sharon, I do know that Jerry Webb had the surgery done in March and he also had previous wls. I think that he had a few complications but I have not seen any posts from him on this list for awhile. Best of luck to you. Beth Sharon Cindy wrote: > I need some words of encouragement. Guest guest
My daughter is almost 13,was diagnosed w/UC when she was 7.We tried SCD last spring for 4 or 5 months, gave up (she just wouldn't eat anything)but now she really wants to give it a serious try.She had a bad flare last mnth and has been off pred. taper for two weeks. She has blood in stool again but good form so far.I HATE having her on meds and calling her doc will just get her on more(of course I can't let it go too long),but want to start the diet again. Are there any new suggestions for starting the diet when blood is present?I have read and reread Elaine's book.I realize most of you have children with autism but mabe someone could just give me a few encouraging words as you all know how hard it can be to get kids to eat.If there are any parents with a child with UC(ulcerative colitis)I just need to know we're not alone-because I sure feel alone right now. Thanks, Margaret and daughter,
Guest guest
Margaret, I understand how difficult it is with these kids and getting them to eat stuff when they don't like it - or at least they THINK they don't like it. We've found so many recipies lately in the SCD Diet site and our little Cole is doing very well with it. Of course, he's only 5 1/2 and so it's a little easier - what I fix is what you get, duh! Helping him understand that what he eats effects him, however, is more of a challenge than it is with a 12 year old! So - You might want to have her keep her own journal of food and meds, stools and how she feels when she eats. Don't be too hard on her - she will find out for herself that when she eats the wrong kinds of foods, it is painful! Help her be HONEST, even when she cheats on the diet - because she's going to cheat, you know. She's 12. Prepare stuff ahead, too, and that will keep her out of the " just this once " mode. Since there are more people than just ME fixing food for Cole, we keep the journal in his backpack and each one of us writes in it. Sometimes we pass recipies back and forth in there, too. Chin up, Margaret, you're on the right track. If your daughter will stay with the diet, she's going to feel SO much better in the very near future. Here are some links for getting started on the diet. Some tips for getting started: http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#transition http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/beginners.htm http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#menu http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#beyond http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#homemade Best advice if blood is present is to take it slow. When you start fruit and vegetables should be peeled and cooked. Blood is usually the last symptom to go so you have to be patient. Diarrhea and mucous usually are the first things to clear up.
