Guest guest
I know the subject of chiropractic therapy to treat seizures comes up here every once in a while, but I felt that I needed to bring it up again today. I was going through some papers and found a brochure I had been given regarding chiropractic therapy and its benefits in controlling seizures vs. anticonvulsant medications. A friend had given it to us- her husband had seizures as a child and the seizures stopped after seeing a chiropractor. (And for your information- he is one of the smartest people I know today!!) I just wanted to make sure that if you haven't already considered or consulted a chiropractor yet, maybe you should. While Noah was going through all his seizures, it was a blur. But now as I look back on it, I still get stuck on why the seizures stopped. About 2 weeks before he started the diet, he was newly on Keppra, and his seizures went down to about 50 or so a day. Then we started going to a chiropractor and his seizures defintely lessened- he went to the chiropractor a total of 4 or 5 times within a 2 week period. After every adjustment, pretty much like clock work he would have a drop seizure there in the chiro's office. That showed us that it was doing something to him. (We were also told that many times whatever you are seeking chiropractic treatment for may worsen before getting better). Within that same two week period we saw his seizures lessen to about 20 a day down to only 1 per day. We had already scheduled the diet and went ahead with that as planned. The day after he had the " one seizure " day, we started the diet. He had only 1 seizure per day the first 3 days of diet initiation and on day 4 he had no seizures, and hasn't had one since (going on 8 months now). SO, when we got home from the hospital, he was still seizure-free, so we did not continue the chiropractor appts. (So like I said, he had a total of 4 or 5 visits to the chiropractor in all) But, I still wonder if they had a significant effect on him- is that why he is seizure-free right now and the diet is " back up " or the combo of both did the trick for Noah??? Also recently on the Doose Syndrome site we had a new member join in the summer that I did talk to on the phone since she goes to the same hospital. (Kim Zuidema)- they were considering the diet and also had just started seeing a chiropractor. Probably within a couple weeks she emailed me and the group to say their son was seizure-free, and last time I talked our doctor, she said she heard they were still seizure-free and the only explaination was the chiropractor treatments. No other cause could be the reason. Anyway- I just feel like if you are having a hard time with meds, diet, whatever, and still aren't seizure-free, please consider going to a chiropractor!! It can't hurt! For one thing, our poor kids are SO pitifully messed up spinally from all the seizures (esp. the drops), so maybe some adjustments could give their bodies some relief. When I found our chiropractor I called around until I found one that was comfortable and experienced in treating children with epilepsy. Our insurance covers chiropractic care, but it was as a specialist, so it was expensive. However, the chiro office made a special plan/deal for us that worked out to be less expensive. It would definitely be too expensive to keep up for too long, but I think a few week trial would be worth it. I could also be totally wrong here and not know what I am talking about... I just wanted to share with you a possibility?? If you need any more info on this, I have the brochure and can make copies, maybe can copy it into a Word document form, etc. Mom to Noah- age 3, med-free, & seizure-free on the keto diet

Guest guest
- Thanks so much for sharing. I think there is a strong possibility that this type of therapy could help with seizures. I know for a fact that is has help kids with chronic ear infections when they were told that surgery was the only option. Unfortunately our son died at 14 months of age in April but as you can see I still stay up with the group. It's just too hard to leave and I know that there is no one in the world that understands what is like to have a sick child like the parents of this group do. Thanks again for sharing, I will remember this and incorporate it with our next child even if there are no seizures present. Thanks, shelly Chiropractic treatment for seizures I know the subject of chiropractic therapy to treat seizures comes up here every once in a while, but I felt that I needed to bring it up again today. Guest guest
Langan saw a chiropractor for almost a year. I do not know if it helped much with seizure control, but it certainly did help with the nasty tummy side effects that she was getting from her AEDs at the time. She could go into the chiro's office screaming. He would adjust her and it would never fail- she would pass gas and start smiling. I highly recommend it as a treatment. You just gave me the idea that we need to get back in to see him ourselves. = ) , mom to Langan, 2 yrs old and keto kid 11/03 to 9/7/04, weaned due to severe metabolic acidosis, but keto kid at heart forever. > I know the subject of chiropractic therapy to treat seizures comes up here every once in a while, but I felt that I needed to bring it up again today. Guest guest
Thanks for caring to the point of tears. Not everyone in the group knows of our situation due to new members arriving and the inability to read every post that comes through the site. Ethan, our son was so special to us, we had not planned on children but he was a hug surprise that really brought my husband and me much closer. Although we were grieving, I couldn't wait to get pregnant again hoping of coarse for the best. (Baby due in May) I wanted to see my son again through the eyes of a sibling. It's a kind of joy to look forward to, through the pain, does that make sense? We have wonderful faith and believe all of this pain and frustration that we have all endured is simply because of imperfection and one day soon it will removed and we will be reunited with our dead loved ones. I am looking forward to that day, each and every day. Thanks again , sorry for the book, just wanted to pass on some positives. On and congrats to the baby on the way, what's the due date? mom to Ethan Re: Chiropractic treatment for seizures , Your post brought tears to my eyes. I am so sorry!! Guest guest
, I have been on this list 5 years but am not a " regular " . I did not know of your situation with Ethan. My baby is due at the end of Feb. I am 23 weeks pregnant. I am so happy for you and I know that everything will be wonderful for you. I know that there will always be an empty place in your heart for your loss but new life will be so wonderful for you. I too have a strong faith and know that my faith has sustained me and allowed me to deal with the circumstances in our life with . I will keep you in my prayers

Guest guest
We tried for quite a while years ago, never helped the seizures but it clearly did something for , she just looooooved it. This little kid who hardly ever stayed still would lay there without moving for as long as it lasted and when the treatment was done and the chiro was talking to us, Jess would take chiro's hand and place it on her neck looking for more. At my suggestion another mom tried for her little fellow with LGS, didn't help the seizures for him either, but did take care of a subluxation that no one knew about which caused him pain walking. Previously if they went for a walk they had to put him in a wagon and pull him cuz he would only walk a little ways and then start to cry. Suddenly he was walking and running. So I think its worth a try, if it doesn't help seizures, you never know what else it may help with langansmom wrote: > > Langan saw a chiropractor for almost a year. Guest guest
Just thought i would reply to your post. We take Kieran to a chiropractic clinic about 4 times a year and have been for 6years. We see a remarkable improvement in Kieran for aleast 6-8 weeks after his visit. He walks much better his legs are stronger and he seems more relaxed. It is pricey but i view is that if it helps Kieran then we will do anything for him. for a few days after the treatment he is seizure free and so alert and happy. We have beeen on the diet now for 11 months and his seizures have come down from 15 a month to 8-10. He is so much more happy and alert and he concertrates more. He also sleeps now!!!! he never slept though the night before and hes 11 now. > - > > > > Thanks so much for sharing.
