Do you know of any activities on halloween day around the area? Obviously,

there will be no trick or treating, and i am trying to find something else for

a to do.

Would your daughter be interested in dressing up and handing candy

out? My son is looking forward to Halloween as much as ever this

year, maybe even more. We have turned a cedar chest into a coffin.

He will be inside,dressed like a dead person, lift up a cardboard

lid and hand candy out to trick-or-treaters. Or,you might look

around for a corn maze in the country. Or join one of the church

groups opposed to trick-or-treating; they often have festivals that

night for the children. Good luck and happy haunting!

Throwing in my two cents:

Halloween's one of the best times to go on a decorating frenzy. Paint

clothespins black to create bats, or make your own mini ghosts using cotton

balls and white cloth. Find spooky music to play, or record some scary sounds

(low notes on the piano, a door creaking, etc.).

other options may include: saving your pumpkin carving for Halloween night,

making Halloween necklaces with beads, making slimy, yucky, creepy GAK with glue

and borax (kind of like play dough but much more Halloween).

If Trick or Treating is still a must for your child, talk in advance about a

special item she has been saving up to get (that way she will be excited while

trick or treating.) She can trade her candy for pennies, nickels, dimes, or

whatever amount you choose and use the money towards the special toy she has

been hoping for. As her goody bag gets heavier and heavier, remind her how

close she is getting to " earning " her special Halloween treat. When you get

home, perhaps you can tell her you are going to recycle her candy for the rest

of the trick-or-treaters. Make a big deal of it and take some of the loot to the

neighbors and let her know how her trick or treating has helped the neighbors

who were " so close to running out of treats for the rest of the

trick-or-treaters.
