Guest guest
I went to my OB/GYn yesterday to discuss my fibroids and a cyst and they took my BP 4x and it was 140/90+ each time. I am a bit concerned about this as I have not had high BP in years. Could it be the WOL? She was VERY please at my weigh loss, BTW. But since my BP is high she cannot give me my much needed BC pills. Since they help to shrink my fibroids. So, what do I do now. Should I be eating more of les of something in particular? Any help would be greatly appreciated. On a sidenote I do have a physical scheduled with my GP 11/26 to do all the blood work, lipids and such. Guest guest
I've heard that blood pressure may go up, but then will drop after 6 to 8 weeks on program. Mine dropped dramatically. My BP dropped dramatically on LC, as did my Cholestorol. From 5.7 to 4.3. BP from 165/75 to 120/
Guest guest
Were you upset or stressed out about anything? Taking any over-the-counter medications for colds or headaches? Sometimes that will temporarily raise one's blood pressure. Guest guest
Candace, honey, a lil bit B4 I found Atkins, I was so desperate to lose weight I went to a doctor in hopes of getting an Rx for Meridia diet pills. She took my blood pressure and it was just like yours 140/90! AND she also took it FOUR TIMES, lying down, seated, standing, etc just to be sure it wasn't wrong. I was horrified because never before in my life had my blood pressure been HIGH. Well, this particular MD was none too sympathetic about my weight issues and just told me to eat less and exercise more... she was NOT giving me a prescription for diet pills because she didn't believe in them... her method was to eat less and exercise more. Of course, how could SHE relate to weight issues when she is all of 5'0 " and weighs FAR LESS than 100 pounds. Luckily I found Atkins and have never again had a problem with my blood pressure being high. Along with having my NEW doctor check it each time, I also use those blood pressure machines in the grocery/drug stores all over town. In fact, I can't pass one w/o using it! LoL Do you know what your BP was prior to starting this WOE? If not it's hard to say that the WOE is causing your BP to rise. I'm not saying not to worry about your elevated BP but perhaps today was an isolated incident. Perhaps it's been high and you didn't know it and now, with this WOE, it's going down. Lots to think about and no definite answers, sorry. -Marlena > they took my BP 4x and it was 140/90+ each time. I am a bit concerned about this as I have not had high BP in years. Guest guest
Unlike a lot of folks, my BP has not gone down on LC. However, it's difficult to tell just what the cause of the elevation might be. For many folks, their BP drops on LC because they lose weight - water or otherwise. For others, it's a lot more work. I am currently experimenting with my diet and lifestyle to lower my BP. I was prescribed drugs at 150/80. My BP is now about 136/75 - still a bit high, but better, and I hope to resolve the rest when I get more weight off. Some things to try in the short term. 1) Eliminate sodium. Some people are salt-senstive, others are not. This is especially important if you easily retain water. 2) Exercise. Lowers your BP directly and by relieving strss. I get 20+/10+ point drops in my BP numbers after a workout. 3) Relax. Easier said than done, but also very helpful. 4) Magnesium. Protein Power talks about this one. I take 600 mg/day of Magnesium Asportate, and I dropped my additional calcium supplement. Magnesium is a natural calcium-channel blocker, which is one of the types of drugs given to folks to lower their blood pressure. The balance between calcium and magnesium appears to be the key issue here, with too much calcium causing the BP to increase. It takes several weeks to show an impact (just like the pharma versions)
Guest guest
Candace, I would go back on a less stressful day and have them just do a BP check. Sometimes the stress of being at the DR is enough to make it elevated. Also, did they use the regular cuff or the one that is specifically for " larger " arms? I think the regular is for arms that are 13 " or less....Were you well hydrated? These are all things to consider. --- ~Candace~ candace143@...> wrote: > I went to my OB/GYn yesterday to discuss my fibroids and a cyst and they took > my BP 4x and it was 140/90+ each time. Guest guest
Well, I was a bit unnerved by the new that my ex-BIL is getting remarried after only being divorced 2 months. Needless to say my sister is flabbergasted. His son does NOT know yet. I found that out like 15 minutes BEFORE the took my pressure. They want to re-check it on Tuesday after my US. So we'll see what it is like then. Guest guest
My BP 4 months ago when I was placed on BC was 117/75 which was good. That is also when I began to loose weight. I started Atkins 2 months after that(9-15-00) So I am not sure what's up. I will see what it is at my physical and go from there. Guest guest
I was in Germany when I had my last baby & usually have high blood pressure during the last months of pregnancy so my German Dr put me on magnesium. Guest guest
HAAHAAHAAHAA CANDACE!!!!! Fat friendly thats great! My ob/gyn is a good friend of my boss and I have actually eaten dinner with the guy, its really weird, like last time he was doing an internal exam (and the guy doesnt have anywheres near what would be considered small hands) and all the time carrying on a normal conversation, like oh yeah Dan says to say hello..... WEIRD!!!! He saw me naked for surgery on a Wednesday then calls work to check up on me and talk to my boss on a monday, really weird. But hey, hes the best in the area, also a fertility specialist, so what more can a girl ask for. Haahaahaa he had better not leak it to the boss that we are ttc. I'll strangle him. Love, Becca Oh yeah , they use the BIG cuff They are very fat friendly at my OB/GYN which is GREAT!!
