We are getting an ENT soon. Thanks I have many sinus infections (in fact I have one right now) and I had sinus surgery, last year, which I believe aggravated my Chiari...my neck was in a strange position for a long time. Anyway, I also have reflux (where the food comes up and down, and most of the time, only up.) and motility dysfunction (where the muscles in my esophagus don't contract as they should to push food down and digest). But, I have to agree with your doctor, they two aren't totally connected. The only way it's connected is that sinuses make you really nauseous that could cause reflux. The sore throat can be from the sinuses, as well as dry mouth. If you'd like to talk more at length, write back to me. I have to disagree with this...at least in my case. Prior to decompression I had a myriad of sinus problems.... As a matter of fact I was being treated for a " severe sinus impactation " when I started being symptomatic with Chiari. This diagnosis, was not correct. Since having the decompression...12 years ago...I have not had ONE sinus related problem. IMHO I believe that the overcrowding, pressure in the skull actually blocks the normal functioning of the sinuses...causing " back-ups " and therefore problems can develop. Could be wrong...but from my experience, it makes sense... Take care, Sally R ACM..decompression '91...hydro...VP shunt..doing GREAT in Bethlehem, Pa with no medications! Guest guest
I do that too when I get a sinus infection but I add a little Vicks in the boiling water. Cheryl in Ca >>>>>>>>>> Nathalie: I used to get sinus infections on a regular basis due to my allergies. During my pregnancies I couldn't take anything that would go into the bloodstream, but there were two things that really helped. One was the Afrin 12 hour Sinus Spray Drops (something like that). You have to remember though that you can only use them for three days at a time and then you need to stop for a few days. The other thing that helped was just plain water inhalations. Boil a pot of water, lean over it and cover your head and pot with a towel (if you can). Whether you cover or not just sit there for 5 minutes inhaling through the nose. Repeat this at least 5 times daily. It really does help because it moisturizes the membranes. Also, drink a lot of water. Sinuses need moisture.
