Guest guest
I may be off on this, but the way I simply explain the diet is this: in biblical times, a person would fast to rid themselves of seizures. The Ketogenic Diet mimics fasting. It is a high fat diet, and low glucose. Normally, your body burns glucose for energy. While on the Ketogenic Diet, the body burns fat for energy, thus producing ketones in the brain. The ketones naturally control seizures. Not sure if that will help, but it seems to make sense to people when I tell them! I think I got all that info from Freeman's book. Maybe one or two pages without a lot of the technical information. When Broc was first diagnosed with Infantile Spasms 2 years ago I found a nice two page summary in a Word document that explained IS in simple terms and I sent this out to a lot of friend and family to rather than having to explain to each individually what Broc has. I still use it and have just printed it out to take to a new worker at Broc's daycare. I have been looking for something similar that explains the diet but have been unable to find anything.
