Withdrawal Seizures

Hello,

I am new to this group. I have an 11YO son with autism and a mild seizure

disorder. He has had only one major seizure and it occured 2 years ago, so with

his neuro's blessing, we weaned him off Depakote. We started the wean in July

and finished about 3 weeks ago. I understand that there can be withdrawal

seizures associated with a wean from AED's and I'm wondering if my son could be

going through this. Can odd/violent behaviors possibly be seizures? At times he

goes into hand flapping so hard that I can't get through to him for a minute or

so. It is not normal for him to get " lost " in stims. Yesterday, he was calmly

sitting with my mother on the front porch and out of the blue he started wildly

throwing, eating, & rubbing dirt into her. She couldn't do/say anything to stop

him. She mentioned that on another occasion, she asked him to move over on the

couch so she could sit down. He didn't respond to her so she asked again more

loudly. He still didn't respond for 30 more seconds or so, then he moved over.

Since he has not had any clinical seizures (and no subclinical seizures that I

can tell) in the past two years, I am just not familiar with what might or might

not be subclinical seizures. He used to space out on occasion before he went on

Depakote, but that is totally different from the wild behavior.

Thank you for any information,
