Thanks Rhonda. Well, I wanted to try the yogurt first. Did Shan's

ketones drop when you switched to it?

Along with tiring easily (she is very active again, but looks so tired

much of the time...and if she's not excited about playing or going

somewhere, she'll take a voluntary nap), Claire has been burping (biiiig

ones sometimes--we call them monster burps). They don't appear to be

related to reflux and I noticed it doesn't happen so much since I added

yogurt to her diet. So if our dietician can give me a way to substitute

the yogurt cream for the cream at each meal (our team does the diet a

little differently, with exchanges, so I can't do it myself), I could

get some more healthy yogurt into her and still use the cream.

Otherwise, if I eliminate the cream entirely, she has to have a huge

amount of straight fat (again, because of the exchange system).

Rhonda,

Well, I'm waiting to find out if I can do a straight swap on the yogurt

for the cream. It seems to me, too, that the additional protein and

carbs from the yogurt would be minimal. And, yes, it's the lactose free

kind that I want to give a try.

I stupidly didn't make an appt with a gastroenterologist when we saw the

endocrinologist last week---6+hours one-way for nothing. I was, and am

still, concerned about the low calories and protein Claire is on and

wondered about a metabolism problem, either existing or brewing. They

pretty much foisted us back on the ketoteam. Anyway, when we go back for

next follow-up, I have an appt set up with the gastro. But that's not

until December. Meanwhile, I did a little (albeit unapproved) experiment

with digestive enzymes and that, plus the yogurt, really seemed to keep

the burps limited to one or two right after eating. Before I order any

more enzymes, I want to give the lactose-free yogurt a shot, hoping that

may tell me if the problem is with the dairy.
