I'm guessing that there is a test but we figured out Shan's intolerance on

our own. When we stopped giving her cream and instead gave her plain

yoghurt her seizures remained about the same (1 tonic clonic every 3 nights

in her sleep) but her energy started to come back. When we went to lactose

free cream she suddenly began having weeks without having a visible seizure

in her sleep (was having tonic clonics) and her energy improved even more.

After many months using the lactose free yoghurt cream and still

experiencing stomach discomfort from time to time we quit giving her the

cream (allowed cheese and butter only) and her stomach discomforts have

resolved. She is definitely lactose intolerant and I suspect that she has

intolerances to other things that are in the dairy. Recently I stopped

giving her cheese (allowing butter only) and I noticed an improvement in

being impulsive in the evenings. She usually ate a large amount of cheddar

cheese during the day.

There are tests for allergies, but the only way to really find out what

foods a child is allergic to is to do the " fail safe " test. This test

consists of putting a child on certain foods that people are not usually

allergic to and then after a week or two adding back 1 food at a time. If a

child has a reaction to the food over 24-36 hours n (or after a week) then

you know that they are allergic to that food. I recently bought a book on

ADHD, " Fed Up With ADHD " , and it shares how the " Fail Safe " diet is done. I

do believe the Australians are the ones who are on the cutting edge of this,

but I would expect that the U.S. is implementing it.

Is there a test for lactose intolerance or allergys. Whe did have him

tested

for milk and he was not allergic but that was 4 years ago.
