Guest guest
Bill, We use alot of meats ie all beef hot dogs, chicken, steak, salmon and other fishes , hamburger (all beef black angus). My husband is a fanatic about using meat that is not processed maybe b'/c he is a food sales rep so we eat pure meats prodcuts. As far as veggies, we do Zucchini, asparagus, broccoli, caulflower, cucumber, tomato and sometimes carrots in small quantities. And we use alot of cream and butter and cheese. That is really about it. He is on the atkins diet but we so it like keto without a scale. Still push alot of fat. I think the cream does add to his constipation. What do you do? Thanks again for your help. I'm off to Wild oats to learn about all of this good new info I have from all of you folks. Thanks
Guest guest
I am not familiar with doing the Atkins diet, only keto. So we limit protein. Now we are not limiting it so much as we are weaning from the diet. For constipation, we use high volume vegetables and fruit. We don't use cheese. Maybe that is a contributor to the problem. I wonder if Atkins is worse than keto for constipation because of higher protein that is not necessary for growth and maintenance. I don't use hot dogs or hamburger as I want to avoid animal fat and use healthier vegetable or fish oils. I guess that I consider hot dogs to be processed meat. For hamburger, I wonder about what values to use for calculating the diet. I wouldn't think that cream would be too bad, just that you are using higher amounts of protein. I guess that I would increase fluids and try to add fibre. We add a bit of psyllium husks. Maybe the medications are contributing to the constipation. Some do. We still have difficulties with constipation and " normal " is about once every 2 to 4 days on the diet. My daughter drinks poorly so it has always been a problem. Getting a g-tube helped considerably. I try to offer exercise as a promotion and sometimes give a gentle abdominal massage. We use milk of magnesia. Good luck, Bill lloydandleslie@... wrote: > Bill, > > We use alot of meats ie all beef hot dogs, chicken, steak, salmon and other > fishes , hamburger (all beef black angus). Guest guest
Have you thought of cutting back on some of the cream or butter and use a little flax oil? Some find it good for constipation. But I strongly recommend the magnesium.....you will know when he has too much when you hit diahrea (again!) lloydandleslie@... wrote: > Bill, > > We use alot of meats ie all beef hot dogs, chicken, steak, salmon and > other > fishes , hamburger (all beef black angus).
