Guest guest
I'm really not that up with any of this, but if my non keto kiddie gets any sort of recurrent yeasty/thrushy infection, I ply her with yoghurt containing acidophillus - obviously not really an option on strict keto though... Thrush is often a result of the body being too alkaline, which in keto is not that often, being as the ketones are acidic inducing. Has he had a lot of antibiotics that may perhaps have brought this on? Some kiddies may need that acidic keto boost as part of their seizure control, this may be why he seems to lose control during these bouts. I have seen others on here speak of pro-biotics (sp?) to help balance this all out, but I really don't know enough about it to know what sort and why....maybe a naturopath might be able to help since your Dr doesn't seem that concerned? ----- Original Message ----- > My son is 13 years old, he is on the keto diet and the diet is > controlling his fits well until he gets a coated tongue, ihave had > him to the Drs he said it is nothing to worry about, but it does > bother me,his mouth smells and it is thick white like thrush. > nothing will clear it up,it is the only time he fits can anyone give > me any advice. Guest guest
Thats what I was trying to think of (some days I think I am getting really really old)......acidopholus! You want to find the lowest carb one possible, I think PB8 is suppose to be a good one.....all will have a certain amount of carb because they have to grown in something but I think the rice base of the PB8 is suppose to be not too bad. You would give it all the time (at least for quite a while) to balance out his system , 's mom & Hill wrote: > I'm really not that up with any of this, but if my non keto kiddie > gets > any sort of recurrent yeasty/thrushy infection, I ply her with yoghurt > > containing acidophillus - obviously not really an option on strict > keto > though... > Thrush is often a result of the body being too alkaline, which in > keto is > not that often, being as the ketones are acidic inducing. Guest guest
My daughter has ha thrush 3 times since leaving the hospital. There is a pill called ketoconazole (generic version of nizerol) that is ussually given to HIV patients. Evidently, they get thrush alot. It is a 200 MG tablet that is broken into 1/4's given by mouth twice daily (Hannah is little though, I am sure for the big kids, they may take an entire pill or 1/2). There are no sugars/carbs in it. Hannah gets that same thick white nasty smelling stuff. The pill clears it up within a day. It's great! Guest guest
Hi there, the acidophilus I take has 0 carbs in it, I'll get the name for you and post tomorrow, I'm out of it at the moment -- -mom to stella, 5years old, started keto diet May 10th 2004 still waiting to be seizure free. Guest guest
Try gentian violet. It's messy, but it works. Only 3 day treatment. Another option is to use grapefruit seed extract by nutribiotic. It comes in pill form, and I used it for a yeast infection in my breast tissue. Took it 3 times a day, in between meal times, for a couple of weeks. We've had 3 bouts of yeast with my little one, but since we've been on the diet, we haven't had any issues. The doc may be able to test if it's yeast... > I'm really not that up with any of this, but if my non keto kiddie gets > any sort of recurrent yeasty/thrushy infection, I ply her with yoghurt > containing acidophillus - obviously not really an option on strict keto > though... > Thrush is often a result of the body being too alkaline, which in keto is > not that often, being as the ketones are acidic inducing. Guest guest
, Can you please post the carb-free acidophilus? Our little girl has to take antibiotics and we have already had problems with yeast so we want to be proactive. Guest guest
-- I saw your post, and just thought I'd let you know that kirkman labs makes a probiotic powder that contains only sorbitol. They also make some in an inulin base, with no sugars or starches. Their web address is www.kirkmanlabs.com. (mom to Daphne, 10 months old - dx with Infantile Spasms at 3 months) > > Hi there, the acidophilus I take has 0 carbs in it, I'll get the > name for > > you and post tomorrow, I'm out of it at the moment > > > > -- > > -mom to stella, 5years old, started keto diet May 10th 2004 > still > > waiting to be seizure free.
