Guest guest
Sara, My son wore bothe glasses and BTE. However, he found contact lenses more comfortable. I know that kids around here wear the lenses from about age 7, but different opticians have different ideas. BTE and glasses Ok - so this is a really stupid question and simply out of curiosity. My DD is using BTEs for the first time (her new ITEs are being made) and I'm wondering if she needs to switch to BTEs in the future (more loss of hearing) will she be able to wear glasses which she will most probably also need? How do they fit comfortably behind the ear? Does the metal interfere with the HA? I know - dumb..... All messages posted to this list are private and confidential. Guest guest
Hi Sara - not a dumb question at all! Sam wore glasses and BTEs and that worked okay but he's recently switched to contacts (he's 11). That's worked well for him especially for sports. He will soon be getting real glasses and we anticipate no problems. Jill
Guest guest
I have an 19 month with BTE and glasses. I can not keep the glasses on him for the life of me. He does keepss his hearing aids on. Guest guest
Maggie wore glasses and BTE's together for many years. When she was 11 she started wearing contacts, and still wears glasses when the contacts are not in. It might be a problem in a tiny child but not a school aged kid. We let her get contacts since she was already dealing with hearing aids and was about to get braces.
Guest guest
www.getsafensound.com has a strap for both hearing aids and glasses. I think there is a picture of a child using it on the site. I've seen a few young kids using them successfully.

When I had them you had to be like 15 or so to get them and it was tough....lol Jake is 12 and has been asking but he is also OCD and I am afraid he would be picking his eyes with them. Guest guest
Hi Elaine - Sam is I think an unusual kid - he's very focused and very, very motivated to have contacts. And he's not at all squeamish (he's the kid who watches them give him shots ). So he really hasn't had problem sgetting them in or out and has been really conscientious about taking care of them. I wouldn't have the same story with TOM of course, but with Sam, it's been easy! Barbara elaine_blackford wrote: > > >> Hi Sara - not a dumb question at all! Guest guest
Maggie actually had an easier time learning to deal with contacts than I did! And I was 30 and she was 10 or 11. And she is very germophobic - so I don't worry about her putting dirt in her eyes by not washing hands etc. And she too loves to watch medical procedures. Actually helped drain my husband's knee when she was about 10! Yuck!
