Guest guest
, My immediate thought is that it is too many calories or too many carbs. I don't know what fats you increased but I checked my meal planner and olive oil would be a about 40g increase. Butter would be an increase of 37g and 36% cream would be an increase of 17 calories with 1-2g increase in carbs. If the change in behavior continues I would go back to what was working well. Perhaps you could share with us why you were advised to increase the fats. Also, check her ketones and see if they are the same. Rhonda I have a question. After five weeks on the diet my daughter had her second seizure on Tuesday. I was advised to up her fat intake on her evening meal by at least 5 grams, which I have done. Today she is extremely giddy. Laughing and laughing over absolutely nothing. She is on no meds, but her behavior is something I have never seen, ever. Any ideas? It has me worried. It is so strange. Thanks for any input......... (mum to dear , age 5)
Guest guest
Dear Rhonda The increase in fats was because she seizured, and has not seizured but twice in the whole five weeks. I used mayo as the 5 gram increase in fats, as it was easy to work into her " salads. " I do not use a planner, and am on the keto where the nutritionist gives many meal plans and an exchange list for fruits, veggies, meats, fats, etc. She did not say specifically how to increase the fat. I use the ketone strips, and her ketones are always at the highest level. However, her specific gravity is not always where it should be, as I work hard to get the fluids into her. However, this morning her ketones are at 80 instead of 160, specific gravity at 1.030, which it usually is in the morning. Ketones are never this low. You must be right, the extra carbs and calories in the mayo must have done it!!! And, she is crying to eat, which she never does. Thanks for your input. I am going to go back to what we were doing... or do you have a better idea? Do you think a couple of meal fast would get her back faster? Thanks. Guest guest
Dear Natasha, Many thanks for your e-mail. With regards to 's enquiry whisked my mind back to something my mother once said after I was introduced to medications, around age 7. I was put on Tegretol, Phenobarbitone and Epinutin, my mother has always regarded that period as the day I lost my smile, not wishing to depress anyone. lol. Since those times her perception of me is that I've been more serious minded ever since. So when was enquiring about giddy symptoms I thought maybe her daughter was going through the reverse side-effects having been taken off meds. However, I've since read that's not the case. In ph's case I'm sure within a week or so you should see the real ph once more, at least that's what I hope for you both, Best wishes, Phil Re: Question re: giddy behavior Hi Phill My son ph is going off phenobarb at the moment and he has been insane for the last 2 weeks. After reading your post now I understand what is going on.He is probably having withdrawl behaviour problem. Guest guest
, How is your daughter today? Has she calmed down or just as " giddy " ? I just did a quick search on my meal planner for Mayo (Hellman Best food). Five grams of this Mayo would increase the calories by 36. It did not contain any carbs.. Without fully understanding your daughter's history of seizures and how severe each seizure is, my first question would be why the dietician felt that you needed to make an immediate change. If the seizures are long and life threatening then that would be understandable, but if it was 1-2 minutes long then I would wait and see if a pattern developed or if it was an isolated seizure. Our daughter does not have life-threatening seizures so when she has a seizure we will look closely at what has been happening in Shan's life (diet/physical/environmental) and then sometimes make changes or sit tight and watch to see if she has any more. Some other things to think about is that your daughter could possibly have had a seizure from too high ketones. Having ketones at 160 in the morning is high and they keep climbing during the day. What time of the day did she have a seizure? What was she doing prior to the seizure? About 2 months ago our daughter had a morning seizure while awake (last awake seizure was 2 years ago). She had been riding her bike (very sweaty) and after getting off her bike she went into a complex/partial seizure. I found her ketones to be high which is very unusual (usually small at this time). The cause of the seizure was a combination of being hot from exercise and high ketones. We adjusted her diet (lowered her ratio) and all is well. Another thing to consider is what is in the Mayo. Are the contents all natural or does is contain additives/preservatives/coloring? An increase in any of these could possibly have set her over the edge emotionally. Personally, we have worked hard at eliminating all possible seizure triggers (additives/preservative/synthetic & natural coloring/processed foods) from the beginning of the diet. By eliminating these it helps in sleuthing, determining if any certain foods, calorie increases etc. have triggered a seizure. I would not do any meal fasting to get her back to where she was. Just resume what you were doing previously. How old is your daughter? Up until now does she seem to be tolerating the diet....eating well and no stomach pain? These are just brainstorming thoughts. Perhaps something in this post will be of help to your daughter. Rhonda behavior Dear Rhonda The increase in fats was because she seizured, and has not seizured but twice in the whole five weeks. Guest guest
Topiramate took Rohan's smile away for a while but on reducing the dose he got it back, thankfully. I can tolerate anger etc. but the deprssion/no smiling at the age of 9 (then) was awful. Saro....Rohan's mum Philip Lowe wrote: > Dear Natasha, > > Many thanks for your e-mail.
