Guest guest
Hi , Have you done any tweaking of the diazepam since Stella started the diet? This med is one that can strengthen effect wise with ketosis (Freeman makes brief mention of this in his diet book), and in 's case, this was as far as we were concerned a definite barrier to total seizure control - he was toxic for most of the time he was on a diet/diaz combination (like Stella, along with 2 other meds). We also had to split keto meals from any benzodiazepine medication, the 2 given together used to lead to seizure activity as each diazepam dose peaked (mainly drop attacks). May have been an individual response, as he has always been over-sensitive to these meds, but wondered if you see any pattern seizure wise with Stella's diaz doses, if so, she may need a reduction to help attain control. His myoclonics also returned and actually increased a couple of weeks after diet intitiation (after being seizure free in the day from day 3 of starting) and we had to do a rather large lamictal decrease to get that initial control back again. As she is also on diamox, are you keeping an eye on her ph/blood gases to make sure she doesn't get too acidotic - also a potential seizure trigger? Been there done that with a 3 med cocktail when starting the diet, and I know from our experience how hard it can be to finetune with a lot of diff meds to factor into the equation Hill ----- Original Message ----- > -mom to stella, 5years old, started keto diet May 10th 2004 still > waiting to be seizure free. Also on Lamictal, diazapem and Diamox.
Guest guest
Sue, good to know, I'd love to know more about what has worked for you guys, stella has had 2 seizure free days so far, and today she didn't get her noon lamictal and she's still doing well. Her lamictal levels were really high 17 I think at last weeks draw. I wanted it lowered but her epi said wait and see what happens w/ the higer ratio, she is now at 4.0-1 with 50 fewer cals. He didn't want to change too many things at the same time to see what is helping etc. Need to run and make dinner its getting late. amanda
