Guest guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Hi , Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. My leader is fantastic! She lost 75 pounds last year, and although some of the lessons are a little hokey, she admits that and tries to emphasize the important concepts. Most of our people are free to talk and she asks tons of questions - what's working, what's not working, etc. Is there somewhere else that you can go for meetings? The leader before this one was a man who would say dirty things and the women would joke with him... I was very uncomfortable! But, this leader is great! Maybe you should do the on-line program, or even try to get to know some people at your meetings. I've made some great friends at my meetings! Good luck! ~ Is it just me? I went to my 2nd WW meeting today and found the whole experience ridiculous. This woman leading the group attempting to sound like a cheerleader. All the information presented was simplistic, mundane, most any professional dieter would know already or you learn this stuff from reading once through the booklet. I believe in WW concept of eating so many points a day (same as Nutrisystem concept 1,200 kcals a day), you of course will lose weight, healthy to incorporate exercise and consider all a lifestyle change. But what i really yearn from a meeting is talking with woman on a more honest level. Seriously WW really needs to update their out dated approach. I fantasized on the way home starting a weigh loss business that catered to woman on a honest level regarding diet, feelings, living in this world today, more sophisticated, utilizing holistic approach, i think many woman would really respond. When i looked around the audience today, they looked bored, not connected with each other or the leader. Now i did lose 4.5 pds last week, following the WW point program, what somewhat motivates me with WW is going into weigh myself but not the meetings. So anyway thanks for listening. Enjoy reading all of your emails in this group and hearing about each of your journeys. We can do this, one moment at a time. Take care, Quote
Guest guest Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Hi , If possible, go to a different meeting with a different leader. Everyone has their own style, and you may want to " shop around " for a meeting leader whose style suits you better. HTH, Renée :-) Is it just me? Is it just me? I went to my 2nd WW meeting today and found the whole experience ridiculous. This woman leading the group attempting to sound like a cheerleader. Quote
Guest guest Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 I have been doing weight watchers with my little calculator and this group for a bit of time now. I now do not live in an area where it is convenient to go to public meetings...... but there was a time that I did attend public meetings and was often bored because: 1. They sometimes have been leaders for so long the routine does not change. It is too repetitive, like they have the Vslentine's Day Speech, St. Pat's Speech etc.....they have a little file in the office and use the same program each holiday meeting...They get paid to make it fresh. Make it fresh. 2. There was not enough new product introductions. She counted on members to do that. Well, at thirteen dollars each week, I think they should be teaching US. While I think members should offer ideas and intro new recipes, I think the person you are paying should be introducing the new products to us first. When she does not, I feel she is not up to snuff. Many times these are products listed in their own trade magazine WW, yet they have never heard of them, even though we can find them locally. Not good. At, thirteen bucks a meeting, which I might add, has gone from one hour to a half-hour (this is called express) or forty-five minutes, makes this a twenty-six dollar an hour commitment in some places. I don't mind paying, but I want something concrete for my money. I want to feel the leader knows more than the person sitting next to me. She should be keeping up and reading her trade mags. 3. Core meetings should be separate. She took up too much time with CORE, when most of us were on FLEX or Winning Points (whatever it is called now). She was focusing on way too many FAT-FREE products when the majority of the group had really expressed interest in recipes with what they considered regular foods they would continue to eat once they reached goal. In other words, she just didn't have the ability to switch gears. Finding a different meeting, shopping around, is a good idea, but is not always possible for some people on the program, just because of geographics. We have two meetings where I live and both are 40 miles away. This group works better for me. best, manda Renée Bedford wrote: > Hi , > > If possible, go to a different meeting with a different leader. > > Everyone has their own style, and you may want to " shop around " for a > meeting leader whose style suits you better. > > HTH, Renée :-) > > Is it just me? > > > Is it just me? Guest guest Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 , Try a different meeting. All the leaders have approximately the same curriculum but present it and conduct the meeting in different ways. Some are simplistic, I agree, but others are really creative and address the group as adults. We in Louisville have a leader who has done the following: Show and Tell - bring the wrapping from a food you'd like to show the group that has a low point count. This has been SO helpful, especially to newbies. Divide into groups and come up with a daily menu if you have a party that night, a fancy brunch, etc. Has a question and answer session where the group offers their own ideas to help one of the members with a special problem. Demonstrates how to measure foods like rice (don't pack it down in the cup with a high rounded top, for instance)This is always fun and funny. Tells her own story with humor. You're not stuck in the same meeting just because that's when you joined. You can go to another meeting at the same site or transfer to another location. Good luck!! Guest guest Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 - Find another leader - now. This is my 4th attempt in 20 years. Not knowing any better I stuck it out the first time and lost the 18 lbs I set out to lose. Since I did not maintain it I was back at weight watchers a few years later. The leader was nice but I also did not expect much until one day I could not make the conveient Monday night meeting and went on a wed night instead and I could not believe how great this leader was. The meeting was packed, lots of encouraging groups, she knew every person in the room and every struggle they had. I made a friend and we continued to meet and lose together and then the leader left. The replacement was not the same and I dropped out. My third attempt was futile as i was working FT and had to find a midday lunchtime and I was limited. I felt I wasted 4 months of time and money so I decided that by now I can do thi s on my own. For a while I did, but not having to be accountable it was easy for me to slide off track, which I did. Until this past September. I met a woman who invited me to join her Tuesday night group. The leader was just as fantastic as the 2nd leader I had met years ago. When she is absent, you can feel the energy in the room dwindle and it's a funny observation how few are succesfful the following week. I'm not saying that she is the be all end all, however, if the current situation does not fit, look for another. I travel further to be a part of this group (there are several meeting places closer to my home) It's worth the trip. And this group here is extremely encourgaing and wonderfully supportive - It has helped me during my weekly struggles. I weigh in tonight and I am quite confident of my loss thi s week - I owe a lot of my success to this group here and I am greatful for it! -Deb B Is it just me? Is it just me? Guest guest Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 I really think that a lot of it has to do with the particular leader. Yes, all leaders have the same information each week to present during the meetings. But, it really does make a difference in what approach the leader has in giving us that information. Some leaders use the material the company gives them without diverting from at all. Others take the initial information and then use their own experiences to relate us to what WW wants us to know. Yes, a lot of the information is basic, but for those of us that have had trouble losing weight it can be helpful. Especially when a leader can inform you of new ways to think about food and ways to help make yourself healthier. You may want to try another meeting with another leader. ******* ~Ann Is it just me? > > > > > Is it just me? I went to my 2nd WW meeting today and found the > whole experience ridiculous. Guest guest Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 i agree about finding a group leader who fits you best. my first three weeks on ww i attended with a engery-deflated leader who had already begun repeating stories since the time i had started!! then, i attended a different day because of a schedule change, and my new leader is the best! she brings in at least one recipe a week to hand out, and always asks the next week if anyone made it and if they had any suggestions for tweeking it. just yesterday she brought in two packages of new food she had tried and passed them around. we also have one member who is on a serious platue, and she asked other members who have been in ww a long time to share how they got past their own hurdles. we do a lot of applauding for progress, and a lot of sharing experiences, and i love it. that's what i think, laura > > - Find another leader - now. > This is my 4th attempt in 20 years. Guest guest Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 yes is right! I think it totally depends upon the ' leader' you get. W.W. does have a set ' topic outline' for them to follow each week and I would say some of the topics are quite " dry " ... but it's up to the Individual Leaders to create some Excitement in the room Some of them can, but sadly, some of them can't and don't from Alberta RE: Is it just me? Hi , Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. My leader is fantastic! She lost 75 pounds last year, and although some of the lessons are a little hokey, she admits that and tries to emphasize the important concepts. The leader before this one was a man who would say dirty things and the women would joke with him... I was very uncomfortable! But, this leader is great!
