Guest guest
Hi everyone i also suffer from constant UTI symptoms well was at least every 2 months for the last 5 years, cultures always came back negative for bacteria and 2 cystoscopies came back looking healthy. My doctor thinks that with the vulvodynia my urethra gets irritated and inflamed causing all the nasty UTI symptoms, so i take trimethaprim started 3 years ago for 2 years straight and those 2 years were bliss not 1 symptom but as soon as i stopped they started back up. so now i take trimethaprim when my vulvodynia is flaring and it seems to work really well and i have never gotten a yeast infection from it so thats even better. Guest guest
My doctor has me take one Bactrim every night to prevent ut infection. Bactrim is the same thing as Trimethoprim. Part of my problem is that I can't tell when I have an infection until it is so bad and in my kidneys. I don't have that many anymore but don't want to deal with kidney infections and expect to be on it forever. Otherwise I am really scrupulous with cleanliness after bowel movement by jumping in shower and spraying and I think that has reduced infection for me. Also I seem to require more antibiotic than normal to get rid of infection and spent a lot of years I think with that problem and the reinfection because of not enough time on antibiotic. You sound different of course in several ways. Did the doc see inflammation in the urethra or is he just speculating and grasping at straws? Since the nerves (neuromuscular) are often involved in this vulvar pain thing I wonder if you aren't having urethral spasms and that is why you constantly feel like you are infected. If so, something is causing you to have them when off the antibiotic. I doubt that your vulvodynia (vulvar pain) is causing this but figure it is just part of the same thing--whatever it is. Antibiotics don't often relieve the pain of " Vulvodynia " to my knowledge? You must have some sneaky thing you are sensitive to that causes this urethral stuff and probably the vulvodynia itself. Just speculating here. Also, I get bladder complications everytime I eat more than just a tiny bit of gluten. Guest guest
They saw a tiny amount of inflamation while doing the cystoscopy which is what they are going by. they injected some steroid into my bladder to see if it helped but made no difference whatso ever. i have always believed that my underlying problem is my bladder although i just had the nurse run me through my bloods i had done and she said my hormone levels wer only just within the normal range so im guessing this isnt helping. i have an appointment in a month to go over these with my doctor. I have just started the low oxolate diet with calcium citrate (not sure how long it will take to see results??) dont want to eat absolutly nothing so next i am planning to try gluten frree and there is another one but cannot think of it at this moment thank you for your reply i guess some of us are just ment to be on antibiotics forever, although i do hope to find an ulturnative to them one day soon. Guest guest
Hi there,I'm not sure what your age is, but do not underestimate the role that hormones can play in bladder symptoms. When our hormones drop, or there are changes, it can lead to uro/genital symptoms that mimic infection. I have had bladder symptoms most of my life without ever having a true infection. I was diagnosed with IC...whatever that means? Anyway, for me personally, using estrogen has helped me so much. More than I can put into words. This may not apply to you...but I like to throw it out there, because you just never know! Do you tend to get more symptoms during certain times of your cycle? Take care,Chelle
Guest guest
I am 27 but not sure which hormones were out, dont think ill know till my appointment but will mention this to my doc. i am generally a bit more uncomfortable around my period, just before and on my lighter days, i am painfree in my heaviest days(srry bout the gross info) i tend to look forward to those days as odd as that sounds. i did think i had ic with the frequency and urgency that i was having but my cystoscopies showed a healthy bladder. all they tell me is take triprim wenever i need and if in doubt hold on as long as you can HAHA easier said then done. im back on the triprim at the moment as my vulvodynia is playing up and hate it, the constant antibiotics cannot be good for my immune system, but i dont know what else to do, as i cannot handle the bladder symptoms, i plumet into depression every time i get them. my doctor tells me that these antibiotics cannot hurt me long term but i have this paranoia(srry bout the spelling) about any drugs lol even the amnitrip which i know helps me makes me cringe at the thought of taking it. id prefer to lie down in the dark with a headache than take paracetamol lol.
