One service of the AAC Institute is to provide periodic announcements of interest to those involved in the field of AAC. Approximate average frequency of messages is one per one to two months. Please join us! For the first time this year. Special breakout sessions for parents, clinicians and university faculty. There will be something just for you! This Fourth Symposium will be held on September 15 & 16, 2006 and hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. This year's theme is on AAC Preferred Practice Patterns and EBP. The Charge to the Symposium is being given by Colin Portnuff, an individual with ALS who relies on an AAC system. Individuals who rely on AAC and family members are involved in the various sessions including Snoopi Botten, Chapple, Lowe, and Robin Hurd. Presentations and concurrent sessions have been arranged for families and consumers, clinical practitioners, researchers, and university faculty teaching AAC courses. The Communication Matters National Symposium is an annual event embracing a wide range of issues relating to Augmentative and Alternative Communication. The Symposium will be held September 25-26 at The Gilbert Murray Conference Centre, Leicester University. The AAC Institute will be presenting various sessions related to Language Activity Monitoring (LAM) tools and resources and AAC performance measurement. This is a friendly reminder that it may be time to consider any updates to your entry in the University and Research Directory if you are responsible for teaching an AAC university course or are conducting research related to AAC. If you are a NEW instructor or researcher, please visit the site to see if your university is listed, and then create an entry if you don't find information about the AAC activity happening in your department. The directory is a collaboration with ISAAC. The AAC Institute provides resources to support your AAC courses. too. Many instructors assign one or more of our Self-Study Program courses as required assignments. Students receive Certificates of Completion to indicate fulfillment of the requirement. In addition, the AACI is happy to provide instructors with copies of any of our print materials. Please, write to webmaster@... to make a request for copies of AACI Press papers. We frequently teach AAC classes on the topic of AAC Evidence-Based Practice, generally by video conference.
