Possibly not enough for research (but not sure so don't rule that out) But I was thinking that it would be great to use the monies to help produce a documentary film about another celebrity who grew up with apraxia that I have not talked about yet with this group because I have been waiting for the right opportunity. This second celebrity was unable to speak until 6 -and still suffers from apraxia today but has overcome it (most do not even know that this actor is apraxic -but both the agent and manager of this actor have agreed to let this story come forward) This actor confirms the power of memorizing the scripts to help with motor memory in speech (a theory we've shared in this group for years) As this actor said to me " there are still some words that I can't say so I have to practice them over and over -or change/work around them " This actor wants the amazing behind the scenes story to come forward to help all the children of today diagnosed with apraxia. Perhaps the singer who also offered to help (above) will be willing to write and sing for the soundtrack for the movie idea we will be pitching. This will be a very exciting opportunity for all of us to work together as a group with two very incredible celebrities who have offered their talents or story to help all of our children -to help raise awareness. I know a number of people in the film industry to pitch this to -and am looking to get started ASAP and since I admire the intelligence and passion of this group, am looking forward to putting together a team that includes some of you to work with on this. As part of the team for this I will provide you with the details. Please include your phone number and time zone when you email me (at lisa at cherab.org) and in what capacity you would like to help -or what you believe your qualifications are. Thanks so much! =========

There are silcone bracelets, T-shirts, video, and probably someone to print pamphlets. Maybe this is the time to work together with them to help raise awareness especially if this singer is a well known singer that is going to be on many talk shows. Why hasn't he been on Oprah discussing this? I was once told if you want someone to raise awareness, find a celebrity that has a child or knows someone. Guest guest
, I am thrilled that a celebrity wants to come forward but why won't they use their money? Wouldn't any money be better spent providing grants for children who can't afford speech therapy? Is CHERAB now an official charitable organization that can use as a tax deduction? > > Hi everyone! > > I was just contacted by an entertainer who is going on National tour > in the US who wants to raise awareness about apraxia. Guest guest
This is good to hear! Any chance you could tell us who the celebs are? That would help me (personally) make this decision. Thanks, , IL
Guest guest
Yes - I see nothing on the site regarding your 501 3c - something necessary for you to call yourself a non-profit which accepts donations. In which state do you hold the status? What are the bilaws of that state? You will likely need to have a Board of Directors or Trustees, internal financial controls, etc.. There are tons of promotional companies out there. Some of the ones I dealt with are in the Minneapolis area. These places would be able to provide you with donation cups at a very minimal cost - as well as the wrist bands. The Tshirts are usually cheaper if done by a company that specializes in clothing. As for the person's request for brochures, you could certainly combine the 2 (one on cherab and one on apraxia) into 1 double sided, tri fold brochure. In these instances, I believe less is more - not tons of photos, not alot of gloss. This was the very specific portion of marketing in which I worked - promotions, events. To answer 's question about using his own monies - this person likely believes we already have these things - most non-profits have some promotional items, brochures, etc.. I would caution you though to contractualize with him to be sure that a) he doesn't ruin your brand you are certain of financial controls regarding HIS accepting monies on your behalf and c) that you have some degree of control over what is said on the foundation's behalf. Guest guest
Dear , It is great to hear from you. Emma is doing really well now. I credit it to early intervention and to Dr. Agin's support and recommendations and to the book Late Talker!! Thanks to you. You are amazing. I am very interested in working with you on this but my time is terribly stretched. I am still running the non profit that I founded www.case-web.org I am also Chairman and President of an Internet phone company in Shanghai China. The Council of Alumni for Social Enterprise (CASE) I am wondering if we could get some graduate students at Harvard Medical or Public Health to undertake research on Apraxia on an ongoing basis. The cost is miniscule compared to a full blown research study but it could get needed attention on the topic at the school and then into society at large. Please send me the details. In the meantime I am going to follow up with my contacts at Harvard to see if there are any faculty currently focusing on speech either connected with Aspergers/Autism or independent of it. I'll keep you posted. Are you ever in NY? I'd love to meet you in person. Alternatively, when I next get to Fl I will call. Xx Judy
Guest guest
This is an excellent idea! Really a graduate student would have the time, energy and motivation (ie need for a good project with the potential to make a difference) to take this on. The problem at the moment with a good research study is the cost, lack of knowledge on apraxia even in the developmental community...and money shortage at NIH to fund this sort of thing even for the interested investigator. Support for a bigger clinical investigation would likely have to come from outside charitable organizations or foundations. Guest guest
Yes, it is a great idea - but the cart before the horse. I can find no where reference to a board of trustees or the 501 3c status for cherab. The decision to accept donations and work with a celeb must be made at the board level - not here online. didn't reference it having passed through her board. Without having gone through the proper avenues of 501 3c status, I'm afraid we couldn't accept donations as a nonprofit at all - and I doubt a celeb would want to pair up with an org that hasn't gone through the proper channels. Is anyone here a trustee? - can you send me this info? I would really be EXTREMELY happy to help - but we've got to have that information first. Marina > > This is an excellent idea!
