As I said in my previous posting, I am new to the diagnosis of breast

cancer... and in BOTH breasts, not just one (confirmed as Invasive Ductal

Carcinoma)!! I repeat my question to anyone who can answer this: How

common is it to have a first occurance of cancer in BOTH breasts???

I am scheduled for surgery next Thursday (March 1st), for a sentinel

lymph node biopsy. Only then will we know the stage of the cancer(s). I

have many decisions to make and I can sure use some input from those who

are also going through their trials or have gotten past the worst of it.

I had also written... two years ago, my neurologist told me she thought I

had PARANEOPLASTIC SYNDROME, but with no sign of the accompanying cancer.

She told me that sometimes the cancer shows up later... I called to tell

her the recent diagnosis, and she said it seems to confirm her diagnosis.

But nobody in this group addressed this question... is anyone in this

group familiar with Paraneoplastic Syndrome

Hi Penny,

I had breast cancer just in my left breast so can't help you out there. If there

is anyone here with cancer in both breasts they will more than likely get back

with you.

I read the info on Paraneoplastic Syndrome but have never heard of it. Have you

tried finding a group for that as well as breast cancer? If you need help let me

know.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Hugs

Hi Penny,

I only had cancer in my left breast.

Here's a link that talks about bilateral cancer. One important fact is:

women who had cancer in one breast and the women who had it in both

breasts had the same chance that the cancer would recur and spread, and

had the same survival.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cancer+in+both+breasts

I don't believe bilateral cancer is common with IDC.

Please let us know how your surgery goes and what the pathology report

is. That report will be used by your medical team to make a treatment

recommendation.

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with Paraneoplastic Syndrome.

take care,

When I was diagnosed in June I had invasive ductal cancer in the

right breast (with one HUGE tumor, one smaller tumor, and after surgery

it was discovered that the whole breast was peppered with tiny tumors)

and three small DCIS in the left breast. I had chemo first which

totally wiped out cancer in the left side, but was only partially

successful in the right side.
