Guest guest
Can anyone tell me how long after a lumpecomy they will begin radation and chemo? I know this might sound selfish because so many are suffering here, but I was dx with what I thought was stage 3 BC and now find out after doing the MRI that it's a stage 1 probably 2. Estrogen neg...don't know what that means yet, but know it's not good. Anyway, I am scheduled for surgery on March 12th. My surgeon said it will take 3 to 4 weeks to heal. How long after that does radation and chemo start? I have had a cruise planned since last year for April 27th. That will be about 7 or 8 weeks after the surgery. Can I wait on the radation and chemo till I get back or should I cancel? Like I said, I know this is a selfish question considering what everyone is going through here, but I REALLY need this cruise to get over this year so far. Thanks! Guest guest
hi , It's not at all selfish to want to enjoy something you've been looking forward to before you have to go through surgery & chemo. I had a trip to Florida planned before my lumpectomy, and my surgeon said it was OK to defer surgery a week so I could go. There was a study done that showed that chemo worked the best if it was started within 4-12 weeks after surgery. You should talk to your oncologist about your cruise. I would think starting chemo within 6 weeks after surgery would be OK, but again, this may depend on your pathology report. The MRI only gives the doctor a guesstimate as to the stage. You won't know the stage until after surgery. You also won't know if this is a fast-growing tumor, but if you know that it's estrogen negative, than that can be associated with a fast-growing tumor. Did you have a needle biopsy to determine it's estrogen negative? taek care,

Guest guest
My doctors wasted no time. I found my lump and contacted the family dr on Fri. He saw me and set up a mammo and appt with the surgeon who did the biopsy in the ER. Then Monday found out for sure it was cancer. The next few days had some tests and then the mastectomy on Thurs. I still had my drains in when I started chemo. Must have been ok to do cause its 16 yrs since my surgery :-) Hugs nne Breast Cancer Patients Soul Mates for Life http://www.geocities.com/chucky5741/breastcancerpatients.html BreastCancerStories.com http://www.breastcancerstories.com/content/view/433/161/ Angel Feather Loomer www.angelfeatherloomer.blogspot.com Check out my other ornaments at www.geocities.com/chucky5741/bcornament.html Lots of info and gifts at: www.cancerclub.com Chemo and radation > > > Can anyone tell me how long after a lumpecomy they will begin radation > and chemo? > I know this might sound selfish because so many are suffering here, but > I was dx with what I thought was stage 3 BC and now find out after > doing the MRI that it's a stage 1 probably 2. Guest guest
I started chemo 3 weeks after..Onc said they didn't want to wait cause chemo soon after surgery gave it better odds of working.. If I was you I would speak with the onc as soon as possible and ask what they recommend.. Good luck to you Xo > > Can anyone tell me how long after a lumpecomy they will begin radation > and chemo? > I know this might sound selfish because so many are suffering here, but > I was dx with what I thought was stage 3 BC and now find out after > doing the MRI that it's a stage 1 probably 2. Guest guest
i had a mastectomy on November 15 with a cruise scheduled for Janurary 29. i canceled the cruise and started chemo on December 27...the sooner you cancel the cruise the more of your money you will get back--i only lost a little over a hundred dollars. i am stage 2 -negetive also. i felt bad too coz i was going with my Mom, but we will go next year hopefully! Guest guest
, I had a lumpectomy and started chemo a month later . i was stage 3 er/pr + / I would talk to your onc about postponing the chemo til you come back from your cruise - I'm sure a better frame of mind would be better than starting chemo earlier and being bummed about not being able to go on your cruise. Good luck with everything and let us know what they say. sheri --------------------------------- Be a PS3 game guru. Get your game face on with the latest PS3 news and previews at Yahoo! Games.
