Guest guest
Hi from snowy Massachusetts (again!). Just a quick note about our little one he is doing great with his ST. It is nice to see his sense of humor coming out:) He is using his device more and more. He is such a smart little guy and now that he has a different/other means to communicate it is coming out more then ever. which brings me to ask other members does anyone here use a ACC device? I would strongly look into it if you have a child who doesn't have a whole lot of words. Our school failed to tell us that they have a ASST/TECH committee that looks into this for non verbal/limited verbal kids. I was also told that they do low teck first then look at high teck. since the school if listed on a child's IEP has to pay for the device. You would have to get an eval. done but I truly think it was one of the best things we did for our son. I do think I would do this privately then share the findings with the school. I will tell you they (devices) are expensive and I by no means would have had the funds to fund it if our insurance didn't pay for it. But there are other funding sources out there. This is just a thought reading the post where children are getting more and more frustrated with having their thoughts not being understood. I know it was the right choice we made and thank goodness our private SLP had the knowledgeable and fore sight to help guide us thru this process. If anyone has any questions about it please feel free to ask me. I am sure I will not know all the answers but I know we do have some very knowledgeable people on board here. Have a great weekend everyone..........now off to count the snow flakes:) -Clare
