Guest guest
I'm wondering if it's possible once you've started the chemo process to switch to another oncologist and continue chemo without any interruptions. I've met my oncologist for the first time. I don't have it in me to run around and look for second opinion. Yet, I wonder if at some point I'll regret that decision, is it possible to make the switch once the treatment has started. Has anyone done this? Guest guest
Hi.. I didn't like my first oncologist.. but I figured chemo was chemo and just went through the motions.. when I was finally done, thats when I switched. However, you can switch, probablly easier if within the same practice, at any time.. Even once I switched, I was told that nothing would of been done any different from what I had .. chemo seems to be protocol for most... the basics are the adriamycin, cytoxin and taxol.. those seem to be the 1st 3 they use on most.. there are some on here that I've heard have others . .. but I'm sure there are reasons. Guest guest
I don't see why you couldn't switch as long as you have all your medical records transferred. Guest guest
Thank you for your prompt reply. What were your side effects, if you don't mind me asking, to the drugs you've listed below? Guest guest
hello again, I don't mind you asking at all.. I was tired and nauseas from the a/c about 2 days after treatment.. and back up on my feet after that... I never had a problem eating thats for sure, didn't miss a meal.. The taxol, you don't feel nauseas, but you get joint pain like the flu... you definitely need advil or something to help with that, although everyone is different, I needed, as it was pretty painful from head to toe, but like anything else, once the routine starts, you just keep plugging along and its soon behind you! I promise! Hugs Michele " mrs.katz katz " mrs.katz@...> wrote: Thank you for your prompt reply. What were your side effects, if you don't mind me asking, to the drugs you've listed below? Guest guest
You could ask you surgeon to recommend another oncologist. I asked mine to recommend 2 and I made appts with both of them. I changed drs. and I'm still receiving treatment with herceptin. The dr. I was seeing was transfered and I didn't like the replacement. I switched to the other one the surgeon recommended, who I liked better from the beginning but I wanted to get treatment in the same place as my mom (who was getting treatment for colon cancer at the time), and also his nurses wouldn't administer adriamycin without a port and I wanted to try to get by without one. The new dr. had no problem continuing my current treatment. If I were you I would get at least 2 opinions so you can compare them before starting treatment. But if you can't, you can always switch later as long as the second dr. agrees with the treatment your receiving.
