Guest guest
Thanks MAry and Micki. I have been feeling so awful, run-down, and hair coming out, dry- skin. Not to go on but fairly classic hypothyroid symptoms. But I have been told by a couple of doctors I wouldn't even have symptoms of hypothyroid at 5.3 on TSH test. I have not had any other thyroid related tests, because the doctors have not thought the tests should be ordered. I was working with an allergist who said he would treat a 6.o or 6.5 TSH for hypothyroid but referred me back to the GP. THe GP said I need to start exercising and lose weight, to relieve the carpal tunnel and have more energy, and my hair loss is probably because of female pattern baldness. My gosh, no one is my family has this, and think that is later in life even if you do lose hair. The dermatologist I say said they almost never find out what causes hives, so he didn't try. Anyway, done venting now! ;-) I have an appt with another GP and have a better feeling, like she will help me or refer to an endo who will help. I am in the Boston area, does anyone have a great doctor to recommend? I was relocated here about 6 months ago, and I got the stupid hives 3 months ago. So I have been desperate for a good doctor and don't know how to find one! > > Yes, she should be on something, and us Hashi's people develop soooo many > sensitivities, including to foods and such. > > > > > RE: hives concern > > > > 5.3, you should be on thyroid meds. Guest guest
Carpel tunnel is another symptom of hypO. I don't know any dtrs in Boston. Have you looked at the Good dtrs list or armour's website to find a dtr that prescribes Armour. That is what I highly recommend is Armour - changed my life around. I'm still looking for a good dtr. See if naturopath's can prescribe in MA, they can't in CT. you might get lucky with a ND vs MD. Also I went to the local hospitals websites and looked at all the physicians associated with them and made a list of all the D.O. dtrs. Some of them seem more alternative then MDs. I go to see the first one in a couple of weeks and she does prescribe Armour. I made an appt to go talk to her to see how she prescribes it and how she works. I figured I'd get better answers from her. Go to www.stopthethyroidmadness.com and click on the recommend labwork and go and tell whatever dtr you have now you want these ran. You can also have them ran yourself without a dtrs order and on that website there is info there too on places you can go. But if you have insurance just tell them what you want ran. Hope that helps some hugs Micki Health Eating and Living Together http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/he2gether_/ http://mouster71.blogspot.com/ www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Re: hives concern/ mild Hypothroid? Not to go on but fairly classic hypothyroid symptoms. But I > have been told by a couple of doctors I wouldn't even have symptoms > of hypothyroid at 5.3 on TSH test. A TSH of 5.5 is exactly what made me so sick for yrs. Time after time, 2 different doctors kept me at this exact thing, and I could hardly get out of bed to do anything, though I had to work, day after day, yr after yr. You need the antibodies testing for Hashimoto's Disease, the specific form of thyroid disease that is probably causing all this and the hives too. These docs are way behind the times, living in Neanderthal Times, if they think that a TSH of 5.3 is ok. You definitely need another doctor. > THe GP said I need to start exercising and lose weight, to relieve > the carpal tunnel and have more energy, and my hair loss is probably > because of female pattern baldness. What a dumbo THAT one is. It is a well known fact that carpal tunnel is caused by low thyroid because the " tunnel " in the wrist where the nerves run there, sort of like when wires are run through a special duct, enlarges and swells with low thyroid. The nerves there are " bundled " through a small space already, but this just cuts off the nerves from doing what they're supposed to do. This is also true of the tarsals in the ankles or feet, same thing. The hair---with Hashi's, the whole hormonal system is extremely disturbed in most people with it. I also have thinning hair, and yes, other hormones are responsible also, but it is called imbalance amongest them all, and this doc has no excuse not to be looking at that. Sheesh!!! > THe GP said I need to start exercising and lose weight, to relieve > the carpal tunnel and have more energy, and my hair loss is probably > because of female pattern baldness. What an idiot!! Her he/she is, a dermatologist, having to do with treating causes of skin upsets and finding out what they're about, and he's telling you that they're " not even going to try because most of the time we can't find out " ????????? This one needs to be reported to his state board of medical examiners (turned in) and have his license pulled til he straightens up his act. > Anyway, done venting now! ;-) I have an appt with another GP and > have a better feeling, like she will help me or refer to an endo who > will help. I am in the Boston area, does anyone have a great doctor > to recommend? You need to try calling the offices of some of these docs and ask whether or not they (a) test for FREE T3 and FREE T4, not the Totals or Uptakes, etc....That way it won't waste your precious money and time. If they are vague about it, be adamate or forget it(2) Ask will they test you for thyroid antibodies because noone will. Most endos (but not all) are about the worst to go to for thyroid problems because most of them go strictly by the #s, no matter HOW you feel. Wish I knew some docs in Florida, but I don't.
