I had my first A/C treatment on Monday, and also started using " Tom's " Mouthwash

because I'd read it was a good one when undergoing chemo. I've had a

consistently funky taste in my mouth since starting chem and don't know if it's

the chemo or the Tom's. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

I don't use Tom's and the chemo does give me a " funky taste " in my

mouth as well. Things taste bitter for a few days following my

treatments but goes away until the next one.

Ellie, it's likely the chemo. It does tend to change your taste

buds. You could go back to your prior toothpaste and see if you

still have the funky taste. Drink lots of water (as others have

said).

the funky taste is due to the chemo. It affects your mouth and tongue

(tastebuds), so nothing tastes the same. This may last all through

chemo, but your taste buds will return.

I found it was sort of like being pregnant - where I only wanted to eat

certain foods and drinks. I did best with really bland things, like a

microwave potato.

There's Biotene mouthwash as well. You can use any mouthwash that

doesn't contain alcohol.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a bad taste in my mouth and didn't skip a meal,

hence the weight gain during the whole gosh darn thing!!!

I *did* have a terrible taste in my mouth--indeed, the ONLY thing that

tasted good to me was chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup...

hence *my* weight gain... ;)

Thanks, Ladies! You've confirmed for me it's the chemo. My coffee with sweet

'n low just doesn't hack it anymore - hard to believe after the thousands of

gallons I've drunk in my life. Maybe with sugar . . . . . Whoops! There goes

the weight!

You are all gems.

I found that for about a week after a treatment, if things were even a

teensy bit sweet, it was just overwhelming for me. I thought, " Great!

I've lost my sweet tooth! What a great opoortunity for me to shed a few

pounds. " NOT!!! It came back!
