Guest guest Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 This is confusing if bananas raise your blood sugar which affects your circulation how can bananas help circulation than?? I remember I quit eating bananas and lowered my triglicerides and enormous amount. sharon Re: Fruit and triglycerides Well, I dont know why that Dr. pinpointed only bananas, as there are many other foods, and some not as " healthy " as bananas that raise Tryg's even more. With all the benefits that bananas has to offer vs this so called effect on tryg's. I would not stop eating bananas. It is easy on the stomach, sedating(relaxing), lowers blood pressure, good for the brain and GI tract, circulation, good for ulcers, diarrhhea, stomach cramps, heartburn, etc. , with a bit of sarcasm thrown in. shar2 shar2@...> wrote: I beg to differ I used to own a book by a heart dr Owen something and the first thing he did was take his patients off bananas as they raise triglycerides. sharon --------------------------------- Yahoo! Sharon, When you lowered your triglycerides so much, was the fact that you stopped eating bananas the only thing you did? Or was it one of several things that you changed diet-wise at that time? The reason I ask is that many times we 'fixate' on one change we made affecting an aspect of our health and attribute that one thing even if multiple changes were ongoing. Possibly it was the total affect of multiple changes (including or not) abstaining from bananas that resulted in the lower levels of triglycerides, including other dietary changes, the start or end of a specific medication or the addition or increase in exercise? Guest guest Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 Unless I missed it I didnt see anything about circulation and my question is if it causes high blood sugars which leads to circulation problems how can it help circulation still confused sharon Re: Fruit and triglycerides/roberrt Hi Sharon, Ok I googled bananas and found some info for you more clearly stated then my own words. http://www.finetuneyou.com/Bananas.html http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0KWZ/is_5_6/ai_n13664929 And this second link about a Acai fruit from Brazil with a recipe with bananas that looks good. It is also a bit of a stretch to assume eating bananas will impair your circulation. While diabetes can impair your circulation, if uncontrolled, eating a banana doesn't mean your blood sugar will increase if you are working bananas in to your meal plan and taking your medication as prescribed. I've been told to eat a banana a day... (actually 'prescribed' a banana a day) as I was taking a mild diuretic. When he change it to a more potent one, he put me on a potassium pill instead, but I still eat a couple of bananas a week. Mike Quote
Guest guest Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Baloney I take Metformin twice a day and cant eat bananas without raising my bg and if I cant keep my bg down I will have circulation problems. sharon Re: Fruit and triglycerides/roberrt > shar2 wrote: > This is confusing if bananas raise your blood sugar which affects your > circulation how can bananas help circulation than?? Then don't eat the bananas! I'm not trying to force you to eat them, but based upon your statements, ANYTHING THAT RAISES your blood sugar will impare your circulation... so it's not the banana's fault, it's the diabetes. Guest guest Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 That is good Mike. http://www.weightlossforall.com/calories-banana.htm Here is a link to calorie information on bananas. I also eat a few bananas a week, sometimes 2 a day even. They are very nutrtious and the benefits very much outweigh the negatives, which is pretty much only that its high in carbs, especially a large one as you see. I even put sliced bananas in my oatmeals, cream of wheat, fruit salad and peanut butter. Ok, I just finished eating less then 5 minutes ago and I am making meself hungry again. End of discussion.
