Guest guest Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 How long did it take for the moods to level out? I have noticed the same thing; total loss of patience but for me its when my bg goes low; which happens more to me than high. I'm so terrified of the long term affects of the diabetes I test my blood all the time and only eat if its under 105. since eating isn't any fun anymore this is easier to do than i expected. Guest guest Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Better than it sounds I guess! I eat fairly small meals (1 pbj sandwich for example) and I own/operate a goat dairy; I milk 140 head and have approx 90 doelings to care for in addition to 85 sheep (plus lambs) and several horses so my day is fairly busy; not lots of cardio exercise but still on the move. So I burn off the food fairly quickly; I've re-arranged the " diet " my dr gave me to allow for 4 meals and three snacks because of the length of my day and that works. If I'm hungry and bgs are too high I either wait or go work on something or if I'm really hungry I will have protein, meat or cheese w/out any carbs. I don't notice any symptoms of high bg but I haven't " cheated " yet to really know; the only way I know I'm low (under 85) is the mood swings. Dr says this is because my body is so confused about what is high and what is low; as I stay more even he thinks I will sense it better. I used to absolutely LIVE on sugar, even straight from the bowl, so this is a major change for me. I need to visit a dietician and get some more information but I wanted to get straightened out first. Next week is my three month (from dx) check up so if my a1c is good I will work on a more permanent diet. Guest guest Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 that's a very interesting concept of eating when bs below 105... i'll have to discuss this tact with my doc and see if it would be for me... i try to be cautious of what i eat...but, i suspect that sometimes i'm just eating too much and too frequently. eating at 105 would be kind of like a reward system...go below 105 and eat...lol... --- Janet May Janet224@...> wrote: > How long did it take for the moods to level out? Guest guest Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 When I was diagnosed I got what I assume is the usual lecture - measure bg two hours after eating. I am very pro-active so immediately asked if there was a way for me to know how to do it right instead of testing to see if I was right/wrong. He seemed surprised but was able to give me the guidelines (they are on many websites too) for when to eat and when not. It sure makes more sense to me. If I am trying a new food I also test several times after I eat but once I get a handle on that new item I don't test after as often. Does anyone else use the " test before " method of determining what/when to eat? It helps to be a " Type A " personality and a bit obsessive; I obviously don't have any choice but to live with this horrible disease but by gosh I'm going to make it play nice... Guest guest Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 I never read and was never told anything about " when to eat " and " when not to eat. " Only about testing before and testing after. I've never heard of waiting until my BG was to a certain number before eating. In fact... I'll have a good number right before lunch, eat lunch, then two hours later I'll test and the number will still be good. I won't again all afternoon and when it's time to eat dinner (probably 4 hours later), the number has crept way back up again all on its own with no food to initiate it. It's like my dawn phenomena but only at dinner time too. I'm going through a very rough patch of trying to get control again. Quote
Guest guest Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 I was confused so much about this too, that if you eat, even when not hungry, that you will be better off. Doc said that when you don't eat, the liver gets confused, and messes with your BG and that is why your numbers get high on its own. Anyone else hear this as well? I guess it makes sense, but there are times, I just don't want a snack! Dean GlassArtist@... wrote: I never read and was never told anything about " when to eat " and " when not to eat. Guest guest Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Janet, I am having the same problem you are. One day I feel ok and act ok. Another day I have no patience because of what I am or am not eating and what my glucometer tells me. My BS#s got totally different for 2 weeks and my nutritionist was as confused as I am. My ins co will not pay for any more appts with her so it is out of pocket for me now. And although my bloods are certainly safe now, I have developed a higher cholesterol which I am reading on this list happens to a lot of people. I am on the phone now with medicare. This is so frustrating and time consuming. I wish I was a salaried employee! grrr.. Anyway I am being transferred to a 4th rep to help me because although the nutritionist's visits are covered per their information but they denied my claim anyway! sigh sigh sigh. And now gads she is transferring me to someone else - 5th person! Now a 6th! she tells me they never got the bill with the dr's statement of necessity, I should call the billing dept and tell them to re-submit it again! Ok. I can do that. the whole morning is wasted. And no, they do not cover nutritionist counseling for cardiology/cholesterol problems. Oh joy. Does anyone hear my mood swing???? Guest guest Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 I never thought I'd see the day that I wasn't hungry, but this BG checking, and the Byetta especially, I am just not " munchie " hungry, and only about half hungry at meal time. Still trying to figure out just what to eat before bed to make my ##'s good in the morning. Guest guest Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Judith, It has always seemed to me that insurance companies like to play these games to see if you will give up so they don't have to pay. Just stick to your guns! Make sure you write a list of who you talk to, the date and time. That way, if they try to claim that they have no record of something you start reading this information to them and they usually get their act together. If they still give you grief you can always notify your state's board of insurance. Insurance companies don't like that because if they get enough complaints, they could be fined or even lose their license to sell insurance in your state. That's where your documentation of who, when and what you talked about comes in handy. If you do need to send a letter to your state's board of insurance, make sure you keep a copy for your records and you can also send your insurance company a copy to let them know that you will not be pushed around. It's funny how quickly they find your claim and pay it when this happens. > > Judith, > Sorry to hear of your frustration with insurance companies. Their > policies make no sense to me sometimes.
