Hi, I am new to the group and the first E mail I received after my welcome

letter was the virus and yes I opened it. I didn't down load anything I can't

remember if it said to or not. But I did open it. So then I learn it is a

virus. I jguess that is the danger of belonging to a group. I tried to run my

virus scanner but it is shut off and I never shut it off. This is a brand new

computer. I feel terrible but of course I'm not blaming the group.

My name is Bel. I am diabetic type two and have had it for ten years or

more. I had the symptoms for years before the diagnosis and I tested normal

every

time. So I think I had it even when testing normal.

I also have nerve damage and fibromyalgia which I read a lot of diabetics

get. I take metformin, glybryde, and lantus insulin every morning. I also take

a

lot of other medications. I joined the group to discuss diabetes and its

complications and the things that make our lives more challenging then others.

But first I need to discuss this virus. What should I do now.? If it ruins this

new computer I can't afford to buy another one.

Hi Bel,

Viruses can be spread without belonging to groups so it is always wise to

have up to date anti virus software and do a virus scan often. Mine is set up

to scan once a week, but when there is a virus I scan more often.

You need to turn on the anti-virus program and do a scan of your computer.

Did you buy your computer locally? If so, they should be able to help you.

Also, there are some free anti-virus software that can be downloaded.

Hopefully another member will give you more info about this.

Thanks Barbi my AOL is supposed to do that too so hopefully it did. I ran

the scanner last night and it showed nothing. Thanks for caring.

Hi Bel,

Welcome to the group. Sorry about the virus thing but it doesn't happen

very often, at least not on the groups I've been on. Try updating your

virus scanner and then try running a scan again. If that doesn't work,

maybe a different virus scanner will work.

Hi Bel, If your computer does not have anti-virus software, Here is a free

virus detection software called AVG.

Since this group does not allow attachments, it's doubtful you will ever

have a problem from email received from the group.

Keep in mind that you should never click on a link if you don't know where

it came from or why you were given it.

ALSO... email can be 'spoofed' to look like it came from the group when it

actually didn't. ANY time you get an email that looks like it came from a

Yahoo Group if there is an attachment don't open the attachment. In fact,

never open an attachment unless you know who it's from and know that they

planned on sending it.

And, as others have said, make sure your virus software is up to date.
