I count carbs because it's necessary to calculate the amount of insulin I need. I have no special limit though. I try to eat only a few " bad " carbs. Best wishes M. I follow my dietitians meal plan and have approximately 16 carb units a day (each unit is 15 grams, so this is approximately 240 grams of carbs a day). I don't fixate on this, as I eat out frequently (I live alone and don't cook). If I'm a guest somewhere and have little control over the menu, I try to fit the offered foods into my plan, if it doesn't work, I adjust my insulin accordingly. It works well for me, my A1C went from13.8 in November to 5.9 in April and I've tightened up my control over the past month (my fasting are generally in the mid 90's). Fortunately on my meal plan, a 6 " Subway sandwich fits for dinner, so I do that on occasion. I pick up a lot of items from the deli at the local grocery store. They usually have several choices that are low carb (many times they have pork or beef roast with veggies!). I'll also do SmartOnes or Lean Cuisine at home too... (I can microwave things!) ;-) I have a couple of friends who like to cook out, so I'll call them to see if they want to cook out and tell 'em " I'll bring the steaks (or whatever) " and they cook and supply a salad. I do a 'real' restaurant 3-4 times a month and occasionally pick up whole wheat pasta from Macaroni Grill (their 'meal' is really two meals for me). I usually have a package of lite english muffins at work and have one with peanut butter for breakfast (or eggs from the cafeteria)... and eat lunch in the cafeteria (they have a good salad bar and sometimes have healthy entrees too). Bottom line, I like my food and I *don't* like to spend a lot of time dealing with it. Fortuantely I've found that following my dietitians meal plan allows me adequate variety of choices and makes it easy to follow it while being flexable enough to 'eat out' most of the time. Plus, I can be satisfied and not feel deprived or feel like I'm being punished by a terribly restrictive meal plan. Mike
