Guest guest Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 hi , I would love to get your book so one day my son , who is 6 now, can read it and know how to deal with what he has. You are the voice for so many children who have this speech disorder. Don't give up and fight the urge to give in to those negative feelings. I have never met you but it seems to me that you have a lot of guts to write a book about your plight. You must have great parents who gave you help with your self esteem and encouragement to write your story. " JUST HOLD ON " to quote a famous author of the book " A Million Pieces " . Time heals all wounds. Your a wonderful person and we hope to hear from you soon much love and comfort Rome (mom to ie who is 6 and soon will be reading your book) kiddietalk <kiddietalk@...> wrote: Please, please, please help if you can!!! My litle grandson has apraxia too, and we so hope that one day he'll be able to put his own wonderful thoughts, hopes, and dreams on paper as you have so eloquently done. I hope you can feel the energy from all who care for you just buzzing, and whizing all around you. Typing here, I can almost feel the internet vibrating! Guest guest Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 , I was reading your story at the Cherab site and came across this quote: " The world gave up on me but I didn't give up on me. " As a mom to a little boy with global dyspraxia, I can't tell you how hard it is at times to imagine the challenges ahead for my son. I worry constantly about how those who meet him may judge him and feel like I am constantly walking a tight rope between wanting to get him all the help I can so that he can move forward and not wanting him to feel as if something is " wrong " with him so that his self-esteem is impacted. The one truth I hope that he will come away with is the one that you expressed yourself. That is, I hope he learns how much he is loved, how fabulous he is in so many ways, and how much his delays can actually make him a better friend, a kinder person, a more compassionate, wiser human being. In other words, I hope he grows up to be much like you, . Every time I walk into my little boy's classroom I steady myself for some comment I likely won't want to hear which is such a huge contrast to what it's like to walk into my " typical " daughter's classroom. It's not easy. But you wrote a book, reached out to others, and have continued to work on improving your speech. These are huge things. I hope my son is equally successful. And I hope he remembers never to get up on himself - I also hope you remember the same right now. Hang in there. We, as parents, are very grateful to you for having the courage to tell your story and write a book. Making others aware is where each of us can help in either a small or big way. You have contributed tremendously with your courage. Thank you so much for your story. We are praying for you and wish you the very best. I remember well when I first read his story, and have followed his messages on this board with great interest. As the mom of a four year old with apraxia, I was so intrigued to hear the intelligent and wise words of an obviously smart, sympathetic and knowledgable man who could put into words to his struggle, and what many children affected by this profoundly misunderstood disorder face. , we've never met, but I hope you know that there's one woman here in North Carolina who dreams that someday her little toddler can grow up to be like the terrific man I know you are. Thanks so much for sharing your stories, advice, and anecdotes here. I am thinking great thoughts in your direction. All the best, Pam O'Connor [ ] Re: Please, please, please help if you can!!! Guest guest Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 I too, would like to send something uplifting and positive to . I have not read his story, so I did not want to just send anything and be out of line. Can someone please tell me where I can find his story. My prayers are with , and I hope he does not give up faith, and hope in himself and God. I know it can be very hard at times, and at times we wonder if God is looking over us and listening to us. But I truly know that God has not forgotten us and he is looking over us. His hand is holding our hand. I hope that the little bit of sunshine and faith would let you know that God is truly with you and that you are loved and cared about. Love, Kathy and Kayla (7 yrs, nonverbal) Quote
Guest guest Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 , I do not have your book, but I have to say that it has been on my list of things that my daughter absolutely must have. I wonder if you can imagine how many lives you are touching. I wonder if it is possible to realize at the age of 24 just how much you have accomplished. When we, all of us parents of Apraxic kids, read about your experiences, you are teaching us so much. We are learning what to fight for and what, in the long run, is going to matter most to our children. It's as if we could reach into the future of our children and see what they need and what they are facing and then have the magic ability to change all the bad into good. In life, there are people who talk about making a difference and there are people who just do it. You have done it already, in ways you can't even comprehend. Keep the faith, there are people out here who don't know you, but root for you nonetheless. I am one. Guest guest Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Hi , Hang in there. Life is a roller coaster ride. There are alot of ups and downs. You are in my prayers. You have given me hope for my children. You got your own car at 16 years old. You have a job and you have your own place. My oldest child is 24 and she is barely scraping by renting a room. You have come through a lot. I admire you for writing your story. I am sorry that we live in a world where people are cruel to others. It is wrong. I don't know how to fix it. When I went to school I was teased too. I needed braces and couldn't afford them at the time. I wore glasses as well. So I know what you are talking about. I was teased on a regular basis. I have 2 kids with communication disabilities. They are 14 years old, and 12 years old. I worry for them because like you, they are different and teased often. My daughter needs extra help in Reading, Writing, and most core high school subjects. She is able to be in a regular math class, but she still needs help from her teacher. She should be able to graduate from High School even if she stays in an extra year. I am told she is being taught the materials that are on the test and should be able to pass the exit exam. My son is 12 and struggling with everything academically. He likes to sing, but can't read and has problems with short term memory. He has to practice lots in every thing. He enjoys swimming and seems to do it well. He hasn't given up yet, but he knows that he needs more help than the school is giving him. He is mad that they won't help him more. I worry that he will give up on himself like the school has. At present he won't graduate 8th grade. He is working at the mid 1st grade level in Reading and Writing, and Math. He is better at spelling this year. You are an inspiration to all of us. Guest guest Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Dear , My heart holds you close in my thoughts. I'm so sorry to hear that your in a distressing situation, but trust that you are in the arms of God and hope that you will find peace of mind and comfort knowing how much he cares about you. When on the battlefield of giants, God knows your circumstances, and the challenges you face today. I pray that he'll guide you through this unsettled time and help you tap into that inner strength you wrote of younger years and with that force you will courageously overcome whatever's before you. you have much determination in your life that inspires many families faced with apraxia. I'm the mother of two apraxic sons (Jadd 11 and Khalid 19), who also know the journey of younger years were demanding and often a humbling experience. They share your resilience- " the life lessons gathered through successes and failures that built the foundation of strength and character to face anything. " Stay hopeful and strong in the process and be reminded that when your heart is burden, through God there is a way back when your world falls apart. Mustafa Music for inspiration. Guest guest Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Dear , Thank you for all the awareness for this cause. You are truly an inspiration. Words cannot describe the hope you have given us. Being the mother of a 6 year old boy - I get really scared for him. Then, I have to stop myself and realize - he is the one who may have fears the most. Sometimes, I wish the world was a little bit smaller geographically - because - I think you would have a lot of support lined up at your door. From Mothers, to Fathers, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, therapists, and most of all - your friends here. I would love to hear from you. And so appreciate your efforts on the book. The best always.
