Guest guest
had a large clear patch bandage that covered the stoma. I don't recall air passage, expecially at 4 weeks. Try calling ENT? in Ma. (, 21 yrs)
Guest guest
Hi all, I thought I posted a question yesterday, but I don't see it yet today, so here it goes again: Carmen's trach was removed 4 weeks ago. Her stoma is closing with a band-aid over it, but I can still see that air moves to and from it when the band-aid moves. I am trying to use a small, air tight bandaid, but it's almost impossible to prevent air from moving through the stoma. I'm worried this will prevent it from completely closing on it's own. Any experience out there on this? How long did it take the stoma to close/did it require surgery, etc? Thanks, B., mom to Zachary 5 years and Carmen 2 years (CHARGE)
Guest guest
required surgery for both trach stoma and gastro stoma to close. All the home nurses we had while she was trached stated had " weird " stoma/scarring, though; and we had a terrible time with granulation tissue on the g-site the entire time she was tube fed. Guest guest
's stoma never closed completely on it's own. It was actually more open beneath the surface skin layers than we could see with our eyes. He had it surgically closed two months after the trach was removed. We scheduled a follow up with our ENT, which he asked us to do if the stoma didn't close completely within a few months.... I hope this helps..... best to you- Yuka trach stoma closure Hi all, I thought I posted a question yesterday, but I don't see it yet today, so here it goes again: Carmen's trach was removed 4 weeks ago. Guest guest
we waited 3 months, it still was whisteling and sputtering air. we wanted to make sureshe would not need it. it was surgically closed, not a big deal. we consulted w/plastic surgeon, but he felt not necessary. the ENT closed it, and the scar is so faint, he did a great job. Also, the breathing was even easier b/c no air was leaking. CAthie, mom to erika
Guest guest
My daughter was 8 months old when her trach was removed. The stoma never closed - we had it surgically closed about a year later (I think). Lori Myers Spouse - Trent, Children - (9), (6 in a few days!, CHARGE Syndrome, Congenital Heart Defects/TOF Pulmonary Atresia/repaired, ECMO 12 days, Bi-lateral Choanal Atresia, Decanullated Trach, G-button, partial hearing loss, walking as of 12/22/04!, and Emma (3) Dallas, Texas trach stoma closure For those of you who have had kids with decannulated trachs. . . Carmen's stoma is covered with a water proof bandaid every day--and the trach has been out for a month now. I change the band-aid once or twice a day and it still has some secretions coming from it (nothing of concern). I'm just wondering how long it takes for the stoma to close on it's own. It has probably closed about 75% of the way, but there is still a hole there and air does flow to and from it (I can see the band- aid moving sometimes). I'm just wondering what your experiences have been for stoma closure. Thanks in advance! , mom to Zachary 5 years and Carmen 2 years (CHARGE)
