Usually one box will all have the same number for coding. Each time you get strips which have a new code you need to use control solution and make sure that it is matching up correctly. Quote

Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 > > hmmm test a meter????????? > > If you read the instruction booklet that comes with your meter it will talk about testing your meter using control solution. Most drs forget to give prescriptions for control solution because they aren't used to using meters themselves. However, when you get a prescription or buy a meter, you need not only test strips, but control solution which matches the meter you bought. You are supposed to check it each time you open a new container or box of strips which have a different code number. For instance if your current code is 16 and then you start on a new box of strips and it is 8 you need to change the meter code and use control solution to make sure it lines up with what the " control " numbers say the range should be. This is the only way to know if your meter is testing accurately. This is the first thing you should do IF you detect strange readings as well. Some meter instructions state you should also do a test weekly. A lot of people don't because they don't read the instructions or they are not informed or told to do so by educators or drs or the just forget. If you ever are wondering why you are getting different readings than usual you can also use the control solution to test the meter as well. Quote
