It is with sincere regret that we advise you that a Denison, Texas,

Firefighter was killed in the line of duty around 1030 this morning at a

commercial

strip (row of stores) fire. During initial fire

operations, an awning collapsed and dropped, killing Firefighter Philip

Townsend, 32 years old. The Chief of the Department was also injured but was

treated and released, expected to make a full

recovery. FF Townsend was on the DFD just over a year (his start date was

12-1-05) and leaves 3 small children behind. In a horrific twist of fate, FF

Townsend's Father, a veteran Firefighter with the Denison FD, was the pump

operator at this fire. Additional details will follow.

As always, our sympathies go out to the members of the DFD, the Townsend

family and all effected.
