Guest guest
Dear Rosie, From laughing to crying. I didn't know about Neal. But your sister's angel story rings true to my heart. I've never mentioned this before, because to some it may seem a little outrageous, but maybe there's something in this story too.(At least, I don't think I have. Sometimes I lose track of what was on the screen of my mind, and what traveled to the computer screen.) The summer I was 16, I volunteered at the local hospital as a candy striper. I was in the pede. wing one morning, and saw the most beautiful little boy (with a very sad prognosis.) That night, with a very open heart, I prayed that if children had to be born with needs, then please give one to me, because I would have enough love to love and take care of that child. And then I forgot about it, till was two years old, and the fullness of that night came back to me as if it had been the night before. I can't say when that 'agreement' was actually made. Was it that night? Or was it before we ever arrived in this life? (that sings true for me.) But I do believe we are willing, as are the children, to take on this life experience. I'm pretty sure I rebelled 'major-ly' in the time period in between, looking back. And I noticed I required an exceptional number of 'signposts' (and head-thunks) along the way. lol. When I came on list last year, I was struck by the number of parents who were engaged in some form of child care, prior to, and after their Chargers had arrived, and felt further validated that we are 'willing' partners with our children in this dance. I feel much comfort in thinking that we are doing just what we're supposed to be doing, even if we don't understand the fullness of purpose and meaning of it all at the moment. Perhaps it is just simply its own pupose and its own fulfillment. I thank God for the grace that is sufficient in every moment, even in the times we have to look so very hard to find it. With love, in Ma.
Guest guest
, I have to agree with you on this. In HS I worked at the local childrens shelter, later 4 yrears at a state school in TX, working mainly with DB and medically challenged DD. Learned both ASL and tactile ASL... Ended up with a HH, ADD, Bi-polar kiddo, an ADD Dysgraqphic kiddo, and with CHARGE. Hmmmmm were we picked ?
