Guest guest
In terms of the audiology test results that show a mild or no hearing loss, but a lack of response to most sounds in everyday life and some difficulty acquiring oral language, I am reminded of the issue of auditory processing disorder. The link below has some good, factual information about this condition and what is currently known and unknown about the condition. It also lists a couple of possible approaches that may be helpful. While it is not clear that auditory processing disorder, or a similar circumstance, is present in or other kids with CHARGE, it is maybe helpful to read what is known about this or possibly related conditions currently. There are still many aspects of understanding sound that are not fully understood yet. The encouraging part is that researchers are investigating these issues. The National Institute of Health, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders webpage on related topics is: http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/voice/auditory.asp Re: Meagan's implant was turned on today... Flo, 's results are like this, too. She has always tested beautifully in the booth with her CI. She's been down in the 15-20 dB range in the booth for a couple of years now. But this certainly isn't consistent with her everyday response to it. I think you've hit on two important things--not knowing what to do with the sounds in everyday life, and the choice to ignore. can be a champion ignorer when she wants to be! :-) , mom to (4) http://kauffmanlak.blogspot.com/ __________________________________________________
