Guest guest
Hi all.... I have a question about heart rates. I had my first and only A-fib attack in Oct. '05. Lasted about 7 hours and I converted back in the hospital with the help of Cardizem to lower the heart rate. I am on Cardizem 180MG daily and daily asprin now. I know that Cardizem will lower the heart rate, but I was curious as to just how much. My resting heart rate was 66-72 BPM prior to taking medicine. Now I feel tired, sluggish, and just not myself alot, but I take my pulse and it is steady with no fluttering so I am confident I am not in A-fib...especially since when I did have it the one time I DEFINETLY KNEW something was wrong. My resting pulse now stays in the 50's and I sometimes worry about that...it seems too low to me. When I get up and moving it does go back up in to the 70's. I am 34 and am in good health other than the one A-fib attack. Just curious as to what is considered normal and acceptable for a resting pulse. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Rob - my resting heart rate (on Atenelol) is generally in the upper 40's low 50's... I yawn alot, and I attribute it to the atenelol, but it doesn't really keep me from doing much. Having had only one episode, I think, if I were you, I would ask your doctor to go to a " pill in the pocket " medication route.. meaning that you only take the cardizem when you have an event. There are some people (the lucky few) who only ever have one event, and then never again. My first few events were many many months apart, and for about a year I actually took nothing.. .they'd just stop on their own after many hours. It was only after several events that they decided I should be on cardizem full time (and then it never seemed to make a difference). There are alot of doctors who want to medicate after just one afib event... I personally feel this is a bit of overkill. One event could have been caused by external factors that may or may not cause another... just a thought.. Stef Rob Page thepagecrew@...> wrote: Hi all.... I have a question about heart rates. Guest guest
Thanks Stef... I agree that it seemed abit early to go on Cardizem full time...at the time I was so in shock of hearing a-fib that I was like oh ok yeah I'll take whatever you want...but know that it has been 3 months I am thinking at my next appointment I will at least ask to lower the Cardizem or preferably taper off until I no longer take it and see what happens. Guest guest
> >Rob, My resting heart rate is between 40 and 56. I can walk and play golf without feeling realy tired. My cardio told me that as long as it did not go below 40 I should be OK, however he would like to see it in the high 40's. He also said that I seened to function better at the low rate than most people. Hope this helps. Earl Hi all.... > > I have a question about heart rates. I had my first and only A- fib attack in Oct.
