Well, I got a lift chair!!! Didn't particularly want one but a friend

called who was giving an estate sale and said there was one there for

only $70 and was clean and like new. Since it was blue and matched my

recliner, I sent hubby to fetch it for me. (I could have gotten one free

thru ins. but this was handy).

I gave him my big, comfortable, broken-in recliner and junked his old

brown one.

The lift chair is really rather small and hard as a rock. Even the arms

are hard. I tried my gel cushion in it but when I would raise it the

cushion would slide out. It works fine for getting out of by raising it

but, oh my, do I look longingly at my old blue with Gene sprawled out in

it.

Another feature to watch for is.....if I raise the footrest up the back

goes backward and I can't sit and read with my feet and legs out

straight and the back straight.

My friend came over and said, " My, you don't know how good it makes me

feel to be able to do something to help you. " I just smiled.

I am sure there are all kinds out there just try more than one out. This

one also does not recline to a sleeping position.

Not knocking lift chairs, just be sure and get a soft one and one with

other features.

I bought one on-line recently, too. During my " shopping " I found out that

there are different levels of what they'll do. There is a model that has two

controls, so you can adjust the foot rest with one and the tilt of the chair

back with the other. Mine only has the one control, so when I want the foot

rest to be up, the back goes down. I use a wedge shaped cushion behind my

back to compensate for the back recline. It doesn't take up too much room at

the 'fanny' but it is high enough at my head to make it comfortable to watch

TV and to read.

I wish mine was softer, too. Also, the arm rests don't seem as high as I'd

like them. I'd advise others to go someplace to try them out before you

decide. It was just too difficult for me to go around shopping, so I thought

on-line shopping was the only way I could get one. In retrospect, it was a

gamble and although it's better than none at all, there were these

drawbacks.
