Guest guest
To all Zanaflex users: I have learned the hard way here. For all of June I kept my Zanaflex in my purse. I've been very active and out a lot so my Zanaflex was left in the car alot. On top of that I stopped my protein diet due to gout symptoms. I started a fresh script around the 20th but kept the remaining tablets of the old script in the purse for lunchtime and evening out dosing. The spasticity had increased, I fell more. I wrote it off as progression. First of all Zanaflex starts breaking down in heat. DUH It has been 90+ several days. Not only was I getting less drug, my body was doing what they call rebound. Like a withdrawal the spasticity greatly increased with the decrease. Now I already knew that the increased acid in the South Beach diet synergized the Zanaflex...because one V-8 juice and a dose put me to sleep. Well any high protein diet synergizes Zanaflex. My dose had been regulated on a basic high protein diet. When I went off the diet my body was again getting less Zanaflex, therefore more rebound and more spasticity. So my dose was increased at the Clinic Wednesday, as I started the new script. Wham. I slept 14 out of 16 hours. As I reviewed the manufacturer's info this morning, everything was right there in black and white. Other things I learned: taking Zanaflex when fasting increases the blood levels. (So that's why getting ready for the coloscopy put me to sleep all day) AND a big reaction with VIOXX. The two drugs together are causing hallucinations and phychoses as well as heart complications. I have lost function over the past 2 weeks due to my ignorance. Please learn from my mistakes. Eva in WV
Guest guest
Thank you Eva, I dont take zanaflex but my hubby does. There are so many times that our meds are changed and I dont read the info with it. I especially liked hearing what you said about dieting and blood pressure. Since his surgery he hasnt been eating very much and his blood pressure is going from very low to very high. They finally took him off his blood pressure meds to see if that helps. Again thank you, Sandy Lessons learned the hard way - Zanaflex To all Zanaflex users: I have learned the hard way here. For all of June I kept my Zanaflex in my purse.
