Guest guest
My son is actually having this all done on Feb 11th. Ct scan, abr and mri. He'll be getting a CI just after his first birthday, which is Feb. 15th. From what I understand, the ct scan and mri look at the skull. To make sure everything is there and which side it will be placed on. I'm not 100% sure, and I'm sure someone else on here can give you a more clear picture. Make sure they are aware of the reaction you kiddo has had to sedation. My son has been sedated many, many times, so he'll be fine. The first time he was sedated, he was just 1 month old and not even 2 pounds. Good luck and keep us posted. Gray wrote: HI! I seem to get all of my questions answered from this group so here is another one. Jakob (my 2 1/2 year old) will be going in for a MRI/CT scan on January 11th. We will know after this scan if he will be able to get a cochlear implant. Can anyone tell me what to expect with this test. Out here it is in all day process. We have the MRI then the CT. After that we meet with the surgeon and then the cochlear implant director. Quite a long day. Are they just looking at the structure of his ear to see if they can put in an implant? What is the difference between the MRi and CT? We are hoping to get the implant. I do get nervous about Jakob being sedated though. He was with his ABR. He threw up a lot afterwards and it took about three days before he was back to his normal self. All he wanted to do was sleep. Any info you can give about the scans and what to expect would be great. Gray --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The all-new My Yahoo! – Get yours free! Guest guest
Our Ian had several CT scans and MRIs before his surgery, none were done sedated. On one occasion he was so wiggly that they placed foam around the headpiece and basically duct taped his head in place. He was much older that the kids being discussed here, he was about 8 at the time and he thought it was funny. The lady tech gave him a " bouquet " after the testing because he was so good -- it was a bouquet of tootsie roll lollipops. Both kinds of scans were done to look at his skull, specifically the area around his ears. My husband and I have both had scans done for other body parts -- recently my sinuses and his spine. Which test is chosen depends on what details they need to see. Best -- Jill
