Hi all,

I had some very unpleasant bladder tests done on Friday- one was testing my muscles and nerves in and around my bladder and they also filled up my bladder with water to see how it reacted and how much it retained. Well, the said that I had severe spasms in and around my bladder and I retained alot of the water. So they said that I had severe urinary retention and a 'nervous' bladder which they also said could be due to the neurogenic bladder. I had to be awake during that procedure and believe me, no fun at all- put catheters up my urethra and butt. These measured my sphincters reactions I guess. Then they used anesthesia and used a camera to look inside my bladder. My urologist then said that my bladder wall looked abnormal and he said it looked like what interstitial cystitis does to the bladder wall so he also diagnosed me with that. So he says that I have neurogenic bladder and interstitial cystitis. The neurogenic bladder of course he said was due to my neuromuscular condition (he says I definitely have one, no doubt in his mind which is good that he believes that, though he doesnt know much about mito.) But he said that the interstitial cystitis might be due to something else, he sees it often in patients with autoimmune conditions which he said the mixed connective tissue disease might of caused it. Anyone have the UC diagnosis? Anyways, this urologist put me on meds that were bad for dysmotility and neuropathy so I am trying to find something else to try. I saw my gyno today and he recommended Elmiron. I also had my cervical spine MRI to check for lesions- I see my neuro Wednesday for the results of that and the lumbar MRI. Also my neuro said that the lumbar lordosis might be causing my bladder some of the probs too. I've had several drs say that the lordosis might be worsening my conditions, especially the lower GI. Ok, just wanted to ask about that. The MRI gave me severe spasms and not feeling to well today....I'll updated yall more when I get my MRI results Wednesday and maybe try and respond to a few posts too. Till then.....

take care,

Adrienne
