Guest guest
I think I would want to have it casted too. What could it hurt? We were told Darbi's foot was positional. Then she saw an Ortho the day of discharge (4 days later) and dx with a true clubfoot. They used the creases on the inside foot near the ankle as part of the diagnosis. Her foot was very supple. I could point it normal and she couldn't care less, very easy. When we switched Dr.'s to one on Dr. Ponseti's list the day before her first cast was to come off he said something to the effect that they don't know which are positional and which aren't. That he would treat her the same even if it was positional. Does she have a crease on that side? Has the stretching done *anything*? I think I'd be asking for a few Ponseti casts so it's fixed along with the other one. What are you going to do when she goes into the DBB and that other foot isn't corrected? Will she be able to even wear it? Maybe he thinks it'll only take a couple of casts to correct it and he wants to do it at the end of the treatment for the other foot? That makes sense though, if the other foot is getting a tenotomy he could start casting on the positional foot right before the tenotomy and still have 3-5w to get it corrected. You may want to clarify this. I wouldn't be comfortable with no casting at all but some clubfeet can be corrected with as little as 3 or 4 Ponseti casts. Dr. Ponseti himself judged Darbi's foot to only need 4 casts - even though she got 5. Congrats on the birth of your daughter BTW. Enjoy her :~} Kori Mama of Kenton - 6/98 Merek - 3/00 Darbi - 3/28 - Rt. CF - DBB 14hr/d
