Guest guest
I am so sorry to be such a pest, but do ya'll mind sharing with me how you get in the showers by yourself. I always help my husband get in the shower and sit in his chair and let the shower pour on him and then I pull the electric wheelchair up to bathtub and he sits down in it and then we back it up and then he stands up at his superpole and I dry his back off and legs, of course he tries to dry himself in the chair after shower as best he can, and then when he stands by his superpole, I use my " hairdryer " and try to finish drying him all the way which helps him some with the heat. If ya'll have any other suggestions please let me know. And do ya'll dress yourself??? I always help him get his walking shorts on or his PJ's and his shirt on also and then he is set to go. Please let me know what you do. Thanks ever so much. June
Guest guest
Thank you so much Sandy for your thoughts and caring and yes I am soooooo tired but I don't dare stop and think about everything, anyway yes he has therapy here at home 3 times a week, a massage once a week (so do I) and his therapist is great, she is going with us to Shands tomorrow to see his Dr. and to tell him what all she is doing and she is driving us thank goodness as I hate I-10 and I-75, and yes he has a seat in the tub and he also has what they call a Superpole that is wonderful for support but I am really sorta tired for some reason today, it is raining and when I get stressed I eat ice cream and etc and I ate some a little bit ago and with all that sugar my energy has gone to China - but he is sleeping now and I have to go let my daughters puppy out as she is out of town on a insurance case (work related) or I would be asleep tooooo. We have someone who does the yard, but the house is at the mercy of the world. It is getting to look like a museum (a messed up museum) with everything on the piano, sofa's, tables so I am getting up right now and clean up, thank you for caring sweetie, I think I would start crying if I stopped and thought about all the things that are going on right now, but there is one good thing for me is that I am dancing in a show with the other 5 women (we are called the " Hot Flashes " next weekend. My daughter is the teacher in Apalachicola, Fl and I use to teach her as I was a dance teacher for 16 yrs. so we are doing 5 numbers in her show. Jazz, tap (2 number) ballroom number, a cha cha number and some of the ladies are clogging but not me, I would do it but I am just too tired to dance that fast right now, I still have to learn the routine by video as I live here and they all live in Apalachicola 70 miles away, but I always take Charlie with me or someone sits with him or my other daughter comes over and checks on him, but he likes to be by himself and watch the ballgames, but I know he is getting worse and I don't like to leave him alone. Love and kisses to all of you June bug
Guest guest
My poor June, You have got to be exhausted with all you do for your sweet hubby. Is there a way you can hire a caregiver for a couple of days a week? My son is a caregiver that helps out his clients from bathing, cooking, cleaning and yard work too. Do you have a bath seat that he can sit on and rotate himself into the tub. I'm sorry I cant remember the name of it. I cant remember does Charlie go to a rehab facility? If so I would ask them about different things for him to get dressed himself. You really have to take care of yourself because it would be very hard on Charlie and yourself if you had a break down. Please dear friend look into about a care giver to help you. If its a pride issue with Charlie, just let him know all of this is wearing you out and you really need help. Love ya, Sandy Just one more thing please I am so sorry to be such a pest, but do ya'll mind sharing with me how you get in the showers by yourself. Guest guest
Ms. Sandy, you are soooooooooo sweet - I am sitting at this computer thinking " how in the world am I gonna be able to refresh and learn 5 routines by this Friday and Sat PM for my daughter;s show, but since I use to teach her long time agon in the 50's and 60's she thinks I am suppose to learn it over night, but it is so hard to do when I am taking care of Charlie first and Primary. When I thnk I can look at the video and practise it is almost 1:00 am in the morning and then he wakes up with his legs jumping and etc. so there we go - forget the practise which is what I do with no hard feelings cause I have enjoyed dancing for so long its ok and poor Charlie has always been so active I feel so bad for him. We went to Shands Hospital Thursday and his neurologist was really pleased with him, we carried his therapist with us and she showed the dr. what all she was doing for him which was nice. We go back in December. Anyway back to my dancing, it is good therapy for me to do the tap and Jazz and etc and we are going to National Competition in July and Charlie will go with us or I do not go. Please forgive me everyone, I really am not crazzy yet I hope, I just have danced all my life (taught and etc) but the " Hot Flashes " which is my group of women are so cute and funny and sweet. they have never had dancing before and they are like the movie " Stepping Out " so we do have a lot of fun. Love to you Sandy and I am so sorry about your Hubby. My husband was in the hospital 1 1/2 yrs ago with a bleeding ulcer about the size of a half dollar that they had to do surgery on and my Mom had had a stroke at the same time so I was running up and down floors for both of them. God Bless. June bug
