Guest guest
Plantaris is caused by a ligament in the bottom of the foot drawing it up into a very high arch, which is what causes the crease in the bottom of the foot, as well as one on the outside, usually. From what I gathered from Dr P, the correction for plantaris is directly opposed to normal clubfoot manipulation in that the doctor puts pressure on the metatarsal/tarsal joint while stretching the toes out - in a normal clubfoot this is likely to cause rocker-bottom. In the case of plantaris, it pulls that ligament longer, allowing the midfoot to come down to a more normal position. Most of us also do stretches to the foot post-casting that basically involve stretching just the forefoot upward to keep the ligament supple and long. Angel plantaris A few of you mentioned that your kids had casts to correct plantaris. How come casting corrects the position? Do they stretch out the crease and than cast the foot?
