Guest guest
Jeanne & all, There is an exposition called the Abilities Expo that is put on in differnt parts of the country several major metropolitan cities, all you have to do is search AbilitiesExpo on the internet and it will come up for you. They have vendors with all kinds of products for handicapped & elederly people so you can see a lot of the various products and even try them out. I've gone to the Abilities Expo a couple of times in the past and found it very interesting and in fact I bought a wheelchair at the last one I attended. Jeanne I don't know how old you are but a couple of things to think about when you are tlaking about a wheelchair , scooter etc, power or manual. Most power equipment is heavy and who is going to pick it up and put it in the car, van, whatever, and maybe wheeling a wheelcahir would be good exercise. Forgive me I don't remember do you have PLS or HSP or should I say how much upper body involvement do you have??? I have HSP and use a manual chair a titanium Quickie chair which I love with out the wheels it onlty weighs about 18 pounds and I get it in & out of my car all by myself every day a couple of times a day. I think if you can wheel yourself it would be good exercise and help develop upper body strength. Just a thought, good luck with what ever decision you make.
