Iron Deficiency

When I went to the ER last April, they tested my iron level. Neither

the ER doc or my pcp told me that my iron was low. The only reason I

know the level was low back then is because when I had my file at the

CCF, my husband was looking at lab results and noticed the low level.

I called my pcp's office last week and asked about this and ended up

having my iron level checked again. The level this time was 2 (normal

being greater than 14). Now I'm taking iron supplements. I don't know

if it's coincidental, but, I feel at least 50% better as far as

fatigue and muscle pain. I asked my pcp's office why this was never

addressed last April and was told it was probably overlooked!! This

may be wishful thinking, but, I'm wondering if my symptoms will go

away once my iron levels are back to normal. I'm also wondering if my

low iron caused an increase of lactic acid in my blood, as iron is

important for supplying oxygen to muscles. But then I'm wondering if

having mito can affect iron levels. Then there is my digestive system

problems, which may affect iron absorption. Don't mean to ramble.

Just wondering what your thoughts are.
